Thank you for the article. It does not surprise me at a number of levels. I set great store by evolutionary bio ethics as I think it explains a lot about us. Quite simply we are all descended from good breeders. So it is to be expected that breeding penchants that are successful should grow to dominate.

A prediction of evolutionary bio ethics is that female mating strategy should be to take the dedicated resources of a male supporting child rearing but to take sperm from the most superior male i. e. to cheat. It is much easier to be a male of almost every other species as the females signal ovulation.

Human females don't. Bio ethicians take the lack of ovulation signals as evolutionarily assisting cheating. There are a number of other consequences, such as the sensible male ensuring their girl has a fresh shot of semen every day.

Closer to home, in the past I have been surprised at the number of apparently devoted wives and girlfriends who have affairs. Primarily gossip based but there has always been an element of excitement in the girl/s relating this and they seem excited by other females cheating.

The distinction made between spontaneous and responsive-triggered desire is validated in my own experience. It might be at odds with the concept of women liking prolonged sexual contact but women are quite capable of enjoying sudden male lust even when it is too fast for them to orgasm from it. Where I disagreed with the article was the quoting of Meredith Chivers. The implication is outdated. As Chivers has said 'if I believed the data, I would have to think women preferred to mate with bonobo monkeys'.

It is undoubted that women react to animals mating in a way that men don't. They titter and giggle at birds mating and complain at how quick it was. My elementary school was next door to a bull paddock (field) and I am never going to forget the intense open mouthed concentration with which the girls watched the bull mount the cows.

Chivers was using a device that measured vaginal blood flow. Her quandary was that women watching bonobo monkies mate had increased vaginal blood flow but they denied being aroused by that. Hence the quote.

A couple of years ago, researchers devised a device that measured clitoral erection and subjective reports of arousal correlated as well as measurements of penile engorgement did with men's self reports of arousal.

Feminists maintain that getting wet is a protective mechanism for women. It does make sense that in a situation with imminent sex possible that women produce lubrication to prevent injury. That is an aroused girl is a wet girl but a wet girl isn't necessarily an aroused girl wanting it.

From an evolutionary standpoint, that would be the winning strategy because children sired by superior males are stronger, healthier, smarter, and more talented. Therefore, they would survive and pass on their genes at a greater rate. I don"t believe most women are aware. Instead it is subconscious.

Agree. I would think unconscious rather than subconscious is my only point of difference but it is quite moot what we call it. If our conscious mind is highly engaged, the sound of squealing brakes can startle us and make us jump away.

So I think we all have a prototypical hot girl/guy hard wired in our reptilian sex brain that is saying 'quick, have sex with them'. If don't think that, than I have difficulty explaining why becoming consciously aware I have an erection is the precursor of becoming consciously aware there is a hot girl nearby sometimes. It happens when I have been consciously worrying about my distressing finances.

Obviously I can't know what physical cues women get of sexual excitement and how intrusive those cues are. An erection is an intrusive cue.

However we do know, that when women ovulate, they have more of a preference for 'bad boy' images. We also know that women on oral contraception have different preferences to when they are not on oral.

Quite fascinating and I am pleased to meet someone likes to think on these aspects. .
