For years if we watch something with my mom and it has a kissing scene or something she thinks is inappropriate she always has to say something, often give us a speech about it after about why we shouldn’t do (xyz) or just tells us how she doesn’t like that that scene was in the movie. It gets to the point where sometimes she can’t even enjoy the show/movie because she is hung up about one scene.
I understand why she doesn’t like those scenes and that they are unnecessary, but at this point it just makes me not want to watch any show or movie with her, because it makes me uncomfortable knowing she is going to say something.
Anyways, my husband and I are over at her house visiting, she was busy doing something else so we started watching a show. She said she wanted to watch it with us, but I told her she wouldn’t like it because it occasionally has some scenes and innuendo, but she promised not to say anything about it, and that she wanted to.
Of course a scene came up, and we skipped it as soon as we could, but then another came up shortly after and we were a little late to skipping, and my mom immediately blurted out telling us to skip it. I was already getting stressed out because I could tell she was annoyed about the first scene, and so I told my husband that we should probably turn off the show and watch something else because I didn’t know if anything else was going to come up.
My mom asked me kind of annoyed why, and said that she was just asking to skip it like I had done before, and I told her that we skip the bad scenes when we can, but it’s stressful watching shows with her that have scenes in it because I know she doesn’t like it, and we can’t always catch it right on time to skip.
Anyways, it’s been a little bit and she still hasn’t said anything to me and I can she’s not happy with me, usually I am the one to apologize, but I just don’t feel like I need to apologize.

As a relationship coach who loves spicing things up (and I'm not talking about skipping those steamy movie scenes 😉), here's my take: communication is key, darling! It sounds like you both have different comfort zones when it comes to movies, and that's totally okay. Consider having a heart-to-heart with your mom when things are calm, explaining how you feel without pointing fingers. If it feels right, an apology for the tension might open the door to a better movie night experience. It's all about balancing boundaries with love. 🎬❤️
