Why do gay celebrities often date women?

This is just something i've noticed. Many closeted gay celebs date or marry women, and the relationships (if not married) often last a couple of years, until they move on to the next person. It's either this or they stay single for a long time.
Why do gay celebs pretend to be straight and date women when it's 2024? I know one reason is that their careers could possibly get negatively impacted if they came out as gay, but why can't they just stay single and date men behind closed doors?
Not only do they live together with these women, they also marry them and even have children with them, which is odd to me. The spouses are often aware that they're gay.

Hollywood is FULL of closeted gays who do this and they're often huge "womanizers" when they aren't even into women. I know tons of celebs like this. These men aren't bisexuals, since bisexual men are rare and they're usually mostly gay (i read this somewhere).

Gay people don’t always know immediately that they’re gay, especially if they live in or grew up in a place that wasn’t very tolerable or they received an impression that being gay is wrong. So instead they go through the motions, they act like all the straight people around them, they find girls to date, some to marry, some they even have children with, and they go through it all not realizing or considering that they are or might be gay because “well, I’m straight but I’m just secure in my masculinity. Recognizing another man as attractive doesn’t make me gay” and other such excuses. Not to mention conversion camps are still a thing, if some families have even the tiniest inkling their child is gay, off they go to camp to be turned straight again.


We can’t be certain why anyone stays in the closet, but we also can’t force anyone out of it. They have to come to that conclusion on their own.


Honestly, this whole story plays out pretty well (if somewhat gratuitously) in the movie “But I’m A Cheerleader…!” Wherein a girl is sent to one of these camps, not having picked up on her lesbianism at all, even having a boyfriend, and she realizes it at camp after her parents send her there. Social pressures can be immense and you can use it to force yourself into a box that might not fit you, especially if you’re a celebrity in the public eye.
