I’m 40 and Want to Have more Kids—What Can I Do to Maximize My Chances of Getting Pregnant?

I'm deeply in love and engaged. Moreover, I want to have kids with the man I'm engaged to (ideally 2 kids with him).

However, the issue is that I'm 40, and I realize that it's going to be much harder for me to get pregnant than it was when I had my daughters at 25 and 27. Consequently, I'm feeling a bit worried about our chances.

I've set up a time to meet with a fertility doctor in a couple of weeks to figure out how to maximize the chances of getting pregnant. Moreover, me and my fiance are regularly and frequently doing what you need to do to make a baby (if you catch my drift, haha)

Moreover, my fiance is 13 years younger than I am and (based on some research I've done) it becomes much easier to get pregnant in your 40s if you're with a younger guy (which is the case for me)***

With that being said, I want to do everything I can to maximize my chances of getting pregnant. Are there any lifestyle choices, supplements, medical steps (aside from visiting the fertility doctor, as I've already scheduled that), etc. that I (or he) could do that would maximize my chance of pregnancy? Are there things I or he could do in bed that increase the chance of pregnancy? Is there literally anything else that could help increase the chance of pregnancy?

I want this so much, and I’d love to hear any advice or success stories from women who’ve had babies in their 40s, or anyone who has experience with fertility after 40.

Any tips, recommendations, or personal experiences would be so helpful!

***Whenever I mention the age gap between me and my partner there are always a few people who make rude comments about it. I would appreciate it if everyone would refrain from doing so. We are super happy together and both my daughters get along super well with him. That's what matters.

I would say bake yourself cream pies as often as he can produce the cream just to increase chances


The process is pretty fun after all

Not trying to discourage you or anything I think it’s a great thing to want kids


But your kids will remember you as middle aged while their dad is young and relatable, that will surely play into the dynamics

Good to know that you want to get pregnant and have more kids. Have lots of sex and try sex positions which increases your chances of getting pregnant. Avoid birth control pills and condoms. You both eat good food including foods which increases your libido.

being older, can get tire easily. Hormone changes, depression.. etc…

as long as you have love, money, support have as many as you want.

I agree with the user who said that getting pregnant isn't as much of an issue as having a child with disabilities or learning issues or birth defects.

my mom had my brother at 40, he ended up having speech difficulties at a young age. He is doing ok now, thank god! but I really wouldn't advise on having a child so late.

Track ovulation and have sex a lot around the days you have your peak

the more you think about it, the more you are stressed out, the lower the chances are...

go to your GP and ObGyn, do all needed tests and simply enjoy sex, without putting on it more pressure than it's needed...

the internet is full of stories of women in any age, who couldn't conceive... and it magically happened, when they gave up and the pressure disappeared...

so do yourself a favor... and be simply relaxed and happy, then your body will know it's a good time...

You’re perfectly capable of doing so in your 40’s, the data they used to say that women had a 50% loss of pregnancy chances after 35 is based on data from 200 years ago in rural France. Unless you’re going through menopause — the only time in which a woman stops producing eggs — you can still have kids.

honestly you still have a few more years. you only have to worry if you're not getting regular periods or going into menopause. other than that, stop listening to people (men) who say you can't get pregnant at age 40.

I have to be careful not to get pregnant. My mother was a fertile myrtle until she went into menopause at 57. Follow your doctors advice.
