Hard to answer these days because politics has crossed a weird line where we’re kind of talking about good vs evil, socially, anyway. Like I can’t believe there are people who would even seriously take the opposite side in a debate on these things and attach their face and name to all of it without feeling incredible shame. I can’t believe it’s a debatable issue with functioning adult humans. Yet here we are, and there are apparently more than of them than there are of me who are comfortable enough with it to let it slide.

And that’s where I’m at now. In my demographic position, it’s very easy for some people to be cool to me. So I’m no longer basing friendship criteria based on “how does this person treat ME, personally”, because that would be purely derived from selfish motivations. It doesn’t tell me anything about a straight white guy’s character when he’s friendly to a fellow straight white guy (as an example personal to me, but extends beyond this).

If that same guy was raping women, or diddling kids, or was being actively racist or homophobic or misogynistic…. I’m not so hard up for friends that I need to associate with anyone like that, no matter how nice they might be to me. If I wasn’t me-as-we-know-it, they might not be so kind. Their friendship is conditional on my identity.

So…. I don’t need friends like that, I don’t want friends who have other friends like that and let that shit slide, and I sure as shit wouldn’t vote for anyone like that or respect anyone who would.

Basically, MAGA voters said “I can accept rape”, at best, if they’re not outright denying its validity in the first place. I take rape pretty seriously, as I would have hoped everyone does, so that and molesting kids is right up there in my Top Dealbreakers, and I don’t care what good stuff supposedly comes with the bad. Fuck that and fuck you if you can knowingly accept that in a friend or politician, you can get fucked right with ‘em.

I just do not want anything like that anywhere in my personal orbit, even just in passive acceptance of it. You’re part of the solution or you’re part of the problem when it comes to rape culture, there are no innocent bystanders. I’m not overlooking that shit anymore and just shrugging it off as “well, no one’s perfect.” I DEMAND PERFECTION IN THIS AREA. No compromises. It’s not hard to NOT rape women and unequivocally denounce it. This isn’t a big ask of anybody. And again, I’m ASTOUNDED that this even is a controversial issue. What the FUCK is wrong with Americans? And the rapist thing is only one of like 100 problems with Trump’s character that I can’t believe we accept, but I’ll just key in on this one since it’s so egregious and I don’t have all day. But Jesus fucking Christ, man….🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Anyway…. I say all that to say that this is my new criteria for even just entry-level friendship. So it’s even more important in a romantic partner. It’s going to sound elitist as all get out but I’ll still say it with my full chest: I’M BETTER THAN THIS. I’M BETTER THAN PEOPLE LIKE THAT. And there’s absolutely no reason in the world that I should dumb down my own moral compass to accommodate ultimately shitty people who I don’t want my good name associated with anyway, for what? Companionship? I can do better. There’s no reason for me to settle, and I won’t, on any front.

Sure you have your every right to vote for Trump but nobody should tolerate being around someone who fully supports taking their basic human rights. Like if someone supports certain policies for reasons that don’t align with my morality or empathetic nature then yeahhh it would cause some drama or disregards certain policy for a lack of logical rationality. If your intentions are good and that is why you are on a different spectrum then I really can’t sh*t on it since it is good grounds though when the structure is rocky or twisted then that makes me question a lot about you as an individual (speaking in general).

Problems exist, to solve them you have to think scientifically, compassionately, and without judgment of the unusual but harmless.

Politicians, movement parties, and royalty are all a waste of time.
Look at each problem with a focused mind, think about what makes sense and what doesn't, what benefits you and what doesn't, what benefits others and what doesn't, whats sustainable and what isn't, etc.
