Can you live with someone of the opposite gender and not be in a romantic relationship with them?

My wife and I know a couple of aquaintances that live together but categorically deny being in a relationship. They just live together as roommates.

I believe them, my wife instead says she believes they must have something going on, even if it's just a friend-with-benefits situation, and they do act like a couple sometimes.

Remember, we're actually talking about opposite biological SEX, not gender. Gender is fluid. Sex is what is. And because of that, men and women are raised differently.

I think it's completely possible to live with someone of the opposite sex. I had a brother. Lived with him for about 18 years until I went off to college. No romance between us. Of course, you say, you were siblings. Not just that.

There are millions of men and women who are not romantically involved for a host of reasons: personality, values, and more If a pair of people NEED to share living space and finances, there's nothing romantic about that. They also need to share cleaning and household duties. Again, no romance in that.

Your friend wasn't choosing their roommate for dating reasons. And the two of them are signing a lease together. ANOTHER reason not to get romantically involved. You break up and one person leaves --- you're stuck with paying the remainder of the lease.

Remember that old adage: Do not shit where you eat. Your home is where you eat. Don't get some kind of mix-up between romance and finance.

These two are together for FINANCIAL reasons. A good ROOMMATE is hard to find. There are loads of women and men friends out there to date who would be terrible roommates and failures as friends.

Friends last a lifetime. Romances come and go. Let's hope these two are respectful, good roommates and friends. Means the best for both of them.

@Jamie05rhs I did NOT say that. I said there are opposite sex people who, for many reasons, would not be romantically involved. Roommates fall into that category.

In a completely different scenario, there are romantic partners for the reasons that they share values and have complimentary personalities and similar LIFE goals who decide to live together and eventually marry or make long-term commitments. BUT the bottom line is these people are ATTRACTED to each other.

There are people who are NOT attracted to each other for a host of reasons who end up being frirends/roommates or something else because they have no sexual chemistry. This holds true for gay, straight, bi and trans people.

There are those you're attracted to and those you aren't. That's how it ends up male, female or whatever combo. Some people just don;t do it for you. WHo knows why.

@Jamie05rhs There are many who agree with this the Together Apart lifestyle. People have two households and want to keep them separate and they meet for dates, loving, hanging around. I can see how that could work if both are financially stable.

But for those who aren't, this might not work.

Date nights, vacations, walking while holding hands, watching romantic movies, watching SCARY movies... Cooking together. Taking baths together...

There is one girl I definitely know I could with. We have, or had shall I say, an understanding. Sort of like platonic soul mates. Or at least from my perspective. Not sure she saw it that way. Just a very close friendship. We could probably shag but not need to be in a relationship together. It's rare to find someone like that with such similar values. And I know I could trust her because of her innate morality.

Went on a trip with a group of friends for a few days and had to share a room (and a bed) with a very old and good friend of mine.
Everyone else were couples and her girlfriend wasn’t with us and Im single.


Long story short just 3 nights were enough for us to grow closer than we should have and I one night I even felt her touching herself right there next to me in bed (she thinks I was asleep)


So yeah, I doubt I could platonically live with a woman for a long time.
