I just heard this the other day online somewhere, but if your partner has had life long friends of the opposite gender, or at least long term ones before he met you, absolutely, those are his friends, you should trust him to be okay with them if he's not giving you any reasons not to be. A guy racking up new friends who are girls frequently, I'm going to be suspicious, especially if I'm not being invited to hang out as a group thing, and only they hang out.

I don't believe my boyfriend chose me because I am the best he could find, I believe he chose me because he thought we matched each other at different levels of life. I was his matching partner, and not his fantasy partner.

Yes. If my wife is faithful to me only because I prevent her from spending time with the opposite sex, then her love and devotion is not worth much. I trust her to respect her vows just as much as she trusts me to respect my vows. Every year, she returns to China for a four week visit and she sees friends of both genders. If you don't trust your spouse, you should not be married to them.

One of my Partner’s best friends is a girl he met in Uni more than 10 years ago. They truly have a brother/sister relationship and there was never any type of attraction between them, she’s even his son’s godmother. It doesn’t bother me at all because I’ve seen their dynamic as friends and I also get along with her really well. She got married a few days ago and my Partner obviously attended her wedding, I couldn’t due to work duties. However, if my Partner suddenly befriended another woman while in a relationship with me I wouldn’t be so happy about it and I know he wouldn’t tolerate if I suddenly befriended some random guy.

This thread makes me sad. You have a lack of self-confidence. If you aren't good enough in your own self-assessment, how can you ever expect someone else to love you? A lover is not your chattel. You need to earn their love every day. And why would you want to exclude half the world's population from being your friends?

This is completely different than cheating, which I despise.

The problem with that is men almost never befriend women at all unless they want to smash so the reason guys get protective when a girl has guy friends is we know exactly what they're doing even if our girlfriend doesn't.

Trust is priceless. If you fully grasp the fact that you do not own someone and love them enough to be able to let them go there is power and even security in that. Someone is far more likely to stay with someone who trust them than doesn't.
