I found out today that I have chlamydia after having all the tests done for my pregnancy. My GP couldn’t give me a clear answer.

I think I may have had it for a few years, from a person I had sex with a few times before my current partner of nearly three years. I went to the ER after a night when I blacked out (drunk), and this person had sex with me that night. I bled a lot, was in a lot of pain, and went through all sorts of symptoms. They tested me the day after the incident, and the result was negative. I didn’t get tested again until recently. The infection could have come from that person, or possibly from my partner, though I’m confident that he wouldn’t cheat on me. He’s always been faithful, honest, and a good partner over the past few years. He was in shock when I told him I had chlamydia.

I’m torn about this situation and unsure if I’m thinking about it the right way. I didn’t get tested again after the first test following the incident, so it’s possible I contracted it then. I’d really like to hear from other women who may have gone through a similar situation.

P. S. It’s been difficult for me to get pregnant since my miscarriage in October 2023 but I’m finally pregnant again a few months ago with the same partner of nearly three years.

I told him right after my appointment, and he has already made an appointment with his GP to inform them that he may have an STI. He will get tested for it. However, I'm unsure if I’ve been carrying it the whole time without knowing, or if he cheated on me in the past six months, as my GP mentioned that it’s common to contract one within that timeframe. The GP couldn't give me a clear answer about whether it’s possible to carry it for a few years
