That's not a valid excuse for cheating no if that's a problem you need to either separate or have more sex. I have also noticed that a common theme in men cheating is the wife wanting less and less sex. Almost every time that happens the men starts getting frustrated and upset and naturally that pushes them away because nobody wants to feel like that all the time. It won't fix what he did or make amends but the least you can do after something so bad is to show what honor you can after. Since the guy genuinely wanted to find a way to make things better, I was sympathetic because the last thing I want to do to someone clearly feeling guilty is push them in a direction that makes them keep an awful secret when I could push them towards being a better person tomorrow than they were today.
If I find someone who genuinely wants to be a better person, I will help them but if I see someone fishing for sympathy or "permission" I hope, I ruined your day.

I think the problem is the lack of communication. Most couples make the mistake of getting together and hooking up into a serious relationship before ironing out specific details.
