I used to view the word partner as an insulting term cause you are suggesting that you are cohabiting with somebody who has not committed to you in marriage due to a lack of interest or loyalty you.

But the word partner disguises the status of your relationship so people do not know whether you are engaged or in a long term dating or short term dating scenario.

This masking might be beneficial if you don't want prying eyes to assess your relationship with the person you are involved with.

I had one guy make up lies about the age and personality of the person I am dating and the conditions that our relationship was formed under, so I would not want anybody with bad intentions to know about my personal life.
