It definitely would not be easy, especially if one loved the other but they had moved on. Waht is your take on it. Did it work for you or nah?

1 yYes. As long as it wasn't a nasty break-up. Although I haven't seen Saly in about 24 years, as far as I know, we're still friends. I haven't seen Carol in about 6 years but, that's on her, not me! We had an argy bargy in `19 and she got pissed at me for it and said she didn't wanna see me again. So, I left her alone. She tried to make up with me but, after all I'd done for her over the previous 37 years when she was in dire need and had no one else to turn to, the way she treated me that night was enough for me to cut all ties with her!! I eventually tried to patch up with her a year later but she cut all ties! Her loss!! I caught Anu lying to me, stealing from me AND cheating on me!! I could look past the lie as it was no big deal and, as far as I know, the first time she lied to me and I could SORT of see past her stealing, especially since I stole it back from her without her knowing. But, I CAN NOT put up with her cheating on me!!! I TRIED being friends with her a few years later until she accused me of shit I never even intended, let alone, DID!! After that, I've had NO use for her!!! Again, her loss!! I don't need or want people like that in my life!!

Yes, if her and I broke up on mutual terms and we both realized we weren’t good for each other , kind of my situation with my ex wife, we are still mutual for the kids’ sake but we realized we are better off as friends’ then partners’ because we butted heads like crazy when we were together. She doesn’t like the things I like to do and vice versa , I would like to meet someone and fall in love again but I guess time will tell

I see your point. Butting heads is for rams. So who has custody?
- 1 y
If not "good together" why be friends? Besides child custdy?

1 yAt first, it was hard as the break up wasn't mutual. But over the course of 8 months, I've learned to just be his friend and we now have a nice very amicable friendship. So its possible but you have to be willing to see that ex as now your friend which is not an easy process if you didn't really want the split but it does get easier.
12 Reply- 1 y
Sounds to me that it would actually be harder.
- 1 y
Not when you're with someone else or falling for someone else. Like I don't have any romantic feelings for him anymore and vice versa. They've kind of transferred to someone else for both of us.
1 yNo, I can’t. Once feelings were involved, going back to ‘just friends’ wouldn’t feel right to me...

It's way easier if you see each other ever day but sometimes it's hard.
It really is a good test but you have to honest to yourself when you can do it you start to see beauty in every one00 Reply- 788 opinions shared on Relationships topic.
1 yI couldn’t remain “friends” with ex at the end of a relationship and would only ever attempt to stay in amicable contact if a child was involved but this would not be any “friendship” that I recognize.
I’ve just never seen the point of even attempting to remain “friends” , it kinda feels like something thats offered to let the other down gently.. “I’m not ejecting you from my life just placing you in a land of limbo , of not really being sure of “ who we are to each other “ and “ what the boundaries are.
The only exception would be a healthy 50 / 50 split but that would be a rare and wondrous thing that I could only imagine , never having had.
Nope , once we are over , you’re just somebody that I used to know.20 Reply 382 opinions shared on Relationships topic. I stayed buddies with an ex for a short period after the breakup but we eventually drifted permanently
It was fine we both knew what we were by then
Although there was a weird meeting between us when she started telling me about a guy she was hooking up with (it was about 3 months after the breakup)
And my reaction was: I lit a cigarette and began telling her about the multiple women I’d been with since the breakup
I don’t smoke anymore
It was childish

u 1 yI'm very good friends with my exes from high-school and college too
it is "easy" because it was forever ago, and also because before we were a couple, we were great friends so... we just kept that, the friendship
and even easier when we all moved on with our lives on our own too, but still remained friends11 Reply- 1 y
should add that... it's not quite the same with my recent exes, while we ended up in good terms, and we keep in touch, catch up from time to time... we keep it friendly, but we aren't as close

1 yIn life the only way to move is forward & once I part ways, I part ways. On the other side of things I think I can only be friends with an ex lover if her & I broke up on good terms & it was a mutual breakup or something like that.

It's pointless15 Reply- 1 y
Why pointless? Explain.

You're never going to be friends.
You're not going to do friendly things together.
He agrees to be friends in hopes that one day you'll change your mind and be with him again and he'll hold out a stupid amount of time for you.
You say let's be friends to ensure that he thinks you're still a good person even though you've done a horrible thing to him.
- 1 y
So you just don't want to get back together or what?
- 1 y
I suppose for some people that can be dead on. Thanks for your take on it. 👍🏼

10 ReplyLike someone said it truly is pointless, but it's only worse/terrible when you have another man you are currently dating and still friends with your ex.

1 yIf she still gives me blow jobs and pussy... I can make an exception and let her be my friend. But she should let me finish off in her friends and let me wipe my dick off on her curtains.
00 ReplyHmmmm…this is treading on potential dangerous territory. I strongly believe that in some cases you can still be DISTANT friends with an ex-lover…but I would not test it just in case sparks are still flying.

1 yYes. I have some former dating partners in my larger circle. I only long term date women whom I like as people. If the romance fails that liking does not change.

1 yI'm good friends with all but one ex. I make good decisions. Sadly my best friend of 20 years and mistress of 6 years ghosted me 4 years ago when I told her I wanted to divorce my wife and get married to her.

1 yNot a good idea. When you get into another relationship, your new partner may not like iit.
12 Reply- 1 y
Yeah, but you can't take the good without the bad. Like say a girl, or guy, has kids. Will the new partner have a problem with that?
- 1 y
I can see communicating about the kids... but nothing more than that.
1 yNope. Once something is over it should remain over. It will be a terrible thing if either partner is still holding onto anything about an ex.
