TW: Sudden loss/Grief. If you knew today was your last day with a loved one, what’s one thing you’d want to ask them while you still had the chance?

If someone you loved passed away unexpectedly—no warning, no illness—what’s one question you wish you had asked them while they were still here?

I don’t actually know what I’d ask them. It probably wouldn’t be very good if it was spontaneous. Like id probably change my mind about it later but not have that chance. It’d be super important that I didn’t put heavy stress on myself to say or ask the right thing or get everything out that I maybe should have. Just have some level of acceptance.

Maybe I’d ask them if they were scared about going and if there was anything I could do to help them feel better or ask them what’s their favorite memory. This way we share in that before their final breath and the last breath is a happy breath. The last minute and moment is not filled with anxiousness but reminiscence and happiness.

As another stated I’d probably more say than ask and I’d remind them how much I loved them. And how I’d never ever stop thinking about them every day of my days of breath until my final and last breath. And I’d cherish them always.

We can never bring total peace, perfection, or resolution because we can’t reverse death for them or any aches they have. We can’t keep the distance between us to a minimum, but we can offer them some comfort and remind them how strongly we will always feel for them.

I don't know if it'd be a question so much as a comment. I'd say to my dad, "I hope I didn't disappoint you". My father was super dad and always took care of our family. He was the center of it. And it was a big blow to us when he passed away. I felt it incumbent upon me when he died as the oldest remaining male in my family to protect my mom and sisters since he couldn't anymore. But I'm not my dad and never felt up to the task. I just did my best and hope I didn't let him down.
