What is your view of a Platonic relationship/marriage My friend tells me that her marriage is a Platonic one. Give me your thoughts?

I have read several explanations on Google of what constitutes a Platonic Marriage or relationship, and it seems to be void of romance or sex, and I cannot imagine that going on for a long period of time and keeping a marriage in tact.

My friend has been in this marriage for 17 years, and I was surprised that she told me that her marriage was "Platonic" and I am at a real loss to know what her and my relationship will become in the future? She helped me a great deal after my brother's death, and traveled with me to Atlanta for his funeral.

I would like to hear ONLY from those who want to respond without some sarcastic or snide comments... and I know there are some serious and thoughtful persons on GAG

It's characterized by deep affection, shared interests, mutual respect, and understanding, much like a strong friendship and there is nothing wrong with that.

I do not understand why a couple cannot have the 'above' per @Nikki1989 PLUS 'romance AND sex?
