How to stop liking someone?

I think I like a coworker. He's a year older than me and pretty cool. However, I'm afraid that he'll realise that I like him. I'm an introvert and also pretty socially awkward. Therefore the moment I start liking someone I avoid them to protect my feelings from getting hurt. I'm ignoring him too, more like I'm keeping unnecessary distance from him and he thinks that I'm doing this because I'm shy/reserved around the opposite sex. However, he'll realise the true reason if this keeps going on and hence I want to stop it immediately. All advices are welcome.
