How do I stop liking someone if their in a relationship?

I’m in love with a guy, he’s in a relationship but he inspires me to be the best version of myself and I’ve never met a guy who has such an amazing personality and strength in character. I see potential of what could have been. Back when he liked me and wanted to date me id just come out of a relationship so I turned him down.
And now 2 years later he’s in a relationship but we’ve spoken here and there, he calls to check up on me. I’ve never met such a high quality man that’s what’s tripping me up even more, and I struggle getting him out of my mind. Is it appropriate to block him in this situation so he can stop checking up on me because when he does I start thinking about him, us and he always impresses me every time. I’m sick of it 😅

I'd send him a message saying being cordial of course saying something along the lines of

I have appreciated your friendship for the past couple years, and after getting to know you I realize how big of a opportunity I missed by not giving you a chance when I could. I do not expect anything from you, I just wanted to let you know how I feel. I need to keep my distance from you and your periodic check ins because they bring up these feelings that are getting too difficult to get over when you do. I wish you well best of luck, whatever you wanna say.

This way you know you left it out there, and if he wanted to pick it up he could. I wouldn't expect miracles honey, i think you missed your opportunity and just need to move on.

Find someone who is available and that can make you happy.

The thing is we haven’t had sex no. Okay when I say in love I mean I’m very into him that it’s getting to my head. I’d have loved for us to date at least and see what all the hype in my head is what it will be.
Because he ticks a lot of boxes. He’s also very handsome at the same time and he’s 6’2 which he really didn’t need to be but that’s how God decided to make him. M I’m a smart girl (blessing and a curse) and it’s nice to meet a guy who’s doing more than me. And yes he inspires me and that’s a big deal because a lot of men inspire me to annoyance and anger lol but he inspires me to improve my life. I’ve dated men that I had to stop and say wait, their presence in my life is a burden I’m better of single. But his presence adds to my life.

Yeah it’s hard because I don’t want to disrespect his relationship either. At the moment i don’t know how to speak to him without subconsciously wanting more

Of course, that you are respectful of his relationship says a lot about the quality person you are.
Its good to talk to him regularly though, maybe even just a quick phone call.
