So have you talked to your partner or have you thought about about it to yourself about getting married? If so why would want to think about marrying someone. As to pose to staying single. What do you hope to gain from it?

I'm past this stage. Was married before. Mainly for the usual reason of having kids together. I don't believe in the necessity of marriage by itself. Certainly not for love or a long term relationship. But it is necessary to legally have rights and to carry same name for yourself and kids born.

Now ar my age that is no longer a requirement. If I got married again it would be for fun. Probably just the novelty of it over a need to strengthen our relationship. There could be legal reasons. For inheritance and rights if one person dies. So we might discuss that. If I had that kind of partner.

Marriage is a contract. So in general the reason to discuss it comes down to thinking about contractual obligations and positives or doing it over negatives of not doing it. Only fantasists, romantisists and very lonely people really go in for the "must" get married for love thing.
