How high are your expectations in friendship, love relationships and work collaborations?

Funny you should ask bc I’m in a quagmire rn with a group involving one colleague, one old friend and one former interest.


I’m leading the group and holding them all to the same standard in terms of communication and task management.


It’s a bit of a challenge bc the one who knows me the most tends to take “friend liberties” mid meeting and I have to shut it down and reclaim balance for the group… the colleague is working rapidly with me so I’m able to hand things off to him (like extra correspondence with the former love interest). Meanwhile the former love interest needs to keep being set back in line with the other two bc he tends to act like he knows more about me than he does…


Of the three the old friend is still the one I have to watch more carefully to make sure he stays on task bc we have “friends status” and he may think anything goes… but it doesn’t. The love interest meanwhile does things to impress me and the other two, sometimes over the top.


You have to just resolve yourself to being strong and not getting sucked in. Keep your private life private and your public life public.

I expect my friends to be cool and generally happy people, not constantly using me as an emotional sponge to dump their problems.

I expect my love relationships to have a very close bond, to be very respectful, and protective of each other, and to hopefully be sexually compatible in our desires.

I expect my work relationships to mostly be simple, friendly, but not crossing a boundary into my personal life (Unless I met my partner at work). One boss I worked for in the past said that I'm a "like a ghost". My work is done but nobody ever sees me around, lol.

I think my expectations aren't incredibly high for friendship. As long as my friends put in enough effort into communication and being present in my life and I enjoy their company, I think that's good enough for me.

When it comes to partners though, my expectations are higher as that's going to be the person I ideally spend the rest of my life with and share all my experiences with. I want them to have similar views, interests, sense of humor, our goals should align, we should be physically attracted to each other and have sexual compatibility.

Work is only important as long as it pays the bills and allows you to have a certain amount of financial stabilty, that is, not having to worry if one particular month is not as you'd expect it to be. It might mean less income, or higher expenses, or both. I call it my 'reserve balance', an amount I set aside just in case. Satisfaction in doing the right job and getting recognition from clients is more valuable than the income itself. That's where my focus is.

Expectations in love relationships are high, have always been. As a romantic soul, I give it all and expect all.

As far as friendships are concerned, I think the truly important ones are rare and something to cherish.
