I think genuine niceness is observable over time. If a waiter stuffs her order up, does she give the waiter a tongue lashing or is outwardly still polite but is scurrilous behind his/her back.

Everybody is really nice initially but you might see criticizing of others or being selfish over time.

Your good person partner might not have cheated on you yet but will if they get a good offer because they are selfish and it is themselves only that count.

I would equate Good Person as at least being genuinely nice as well as other things. Niceness is I think the most readily observed and verifiable trait.

You don't. Not 100% concretely anyhow. But this is why you take your time and vet them properly. If they are a good person, and you are a good person as well, they WILL be patient.

Most people who fail at this fail because they didn't vet thier partner properly. They get in thier feelings, and rather than take responsibility for the role THEY play in the relationship would rather just say, "he lied to me" or he misled me" and play the victim. When the REALITY is no, you simply smirked your responsibility in the relationship.

they sacrifice for others. Not only their spouse, children, mothers but for strangers.

they like to go out of their way to help others.

they treat everyone like they matter and you can feel it. Not one of those seemingly nice people who only care about their handful of friends or girlfriend but nobody else.

they never hurt other people for their own gains.

I think you need to look at the relationships they have with people in their life. Do they have longevity? Quality?
Whats the relationship with their parents like? How do they judge others or speak of them? Do their actions meet their words that can be empty and meaningless without evidence or action. Do they give people the benefit of the doubt? Do they help those in need? Do they care for animals and the elderly? Those things are signs. How do they treat strangers? Watch closely.

Watch the speak to other people and how they speak and the tone they use and when finished see if they talk about that person. It will tell you everything

Back when we were... whatever we were doing... I knew she was a good person because I saw the way she treated her ex and the way (I thought) she handled several difficult life situations.

Time has gone on to reveal that she wasn't handling the situations as well as I thought. But, she still conducted herself with a degree of poise and grace that I haven't seen from very many women. I still think pretty highly of her.
