I choose the person based on the quality of the person, I do not select people based on cost benefit analysis where I study my odds of having one person as opposed to another, and I do not social climb between one person and another by using people I do not have good feelings for as stepping stones or temporary place holders until somebody I like more appears.

I also choose the person based on how they make me feel, and not on their objective social status, so I might like somebody with lower status and reject somebody with higher status.
