Yeh I would be concerned if they not only emphasize the criminal but also are ok with the crime they did telling things like yes he did right or that was right way or things like that or the situation made him to do such things he isn't to be blamed etc. No matter how bad is someone's life I never support any kind of crime we need to do. There are always other way to make ourselves better or to get rid of our struggle etc.

Only in rare case it is ok for me but in most of cases it would be concerning for me.

It depends on the type of 'criminal' and what they were sayin in support.

Examples of worrying support;
Serial Killer--"See that's how he got caught, I would have thrown her body in a woodchipper"
Pedophile--"mmm... well she sure didn't look 14"
Bank Robber--"Ha! You kill the bank manager FIRST... that gets their attention"
Thief--"OMG! That's why God gave you a jail wallet... keester the diamond, you idiot"

I dated a girl that would always watch those crime shows! Usually about a lover killing their significant other. A couple times I think I even saw her taking notes! I went out for milk one night and moved three states away.
