Why are only couples legal relationships? Should committed relationships involving three people who share an emotional and often sexual connection on equal footing, be recognized as well?

I don't think so, no... and if your commitment and connection are so real, then you don't need a paper
from the legal standpoint, you can still arrange legal agreements... from the religious point, the religious groups that accept these kind of deals are usually also into incest and other weird stuff so no need to encourage more of that
if you start with three... then the "four groups" will want theirs to, then the fives and so on...
it would be messy, which is not the goal
Just because I'm finding it difficult with a couple relationship, life is all about choices, and if a throuple works, then why not make it a legal marriage.
But I can see problems with a throuple when things start to go wrong, and relationships break up, with the court battles that would follow.

Yes. And quadruples, etc. It's the only morally defensible position. In practice it would be a nightmare: tax code, sponsored migration, health insurance, whatever. But practical hurdles can be dealt with over time. Legal polyamory should be a right.
... The bit where I sit back and watch the abuse role in. Go your hardest. That's my opinion and it's good enough for me.

That sounds like a legal nightmare and also very pointless. You can have a three-way relationship without bringing the law into it. We have been in one since 2019.
I have no problems with a threesome but I don't think they should be able to be a legal relationship.
Nope, it's obviously only for unhealthy people
That's disgusting and pathetic
