Okay so I am a neurotypical woman who is in a six year relationship with my girlfriend who is on the autism spectrum but she is independent, and a level 1. I Iove her but the think that irritates the living shit outta me is her constantly interrupting me. I’ve known some autistic people does this and it is so RUDE! My girlfriend has no consideration on how I feel. We have had so many heated arguments in our apartment everytime this happens. She gets scared when I get so pushed at her! We’ll she should, because her her constantly interrupting me when I’m trying to speak to her, especially when things are important really pisses me off! I don’t care if she’s autistic! She knew what she was doing, she would complain and cry that I am the bad guy and try to manipulate me into being soft with her. She would tell me and people to go easy on her, she’s special needs. NO! That’s how life works and nobody will give a shit if you have a disability! Not everyone will accommodate neurodivergent people! She needs to get over herself! She is rude disrespectful, and she has no empathy! Then she’ll ask me to repeat things and I’m like no you should’ve been listening and if you hadn’t interrupted, then you would’ve known what I said, but you’re stubborn and vain to listen! Bring autistic does not give you an excuse to be assholes. I just don’t know what to do anymore.

Autistic people if you’re constantly interrupting people you better be prepared for people to get angry at you. Stop talking over people and listen. If you can’t be respectful to others and get the fuck away from us. Period!

Sounds like yalls should break up. Communication and respect is missing here. You’re pretty disrespectful and don’t understand autistic people. Why be with one if you lack compassion and patience with them? No healthy, loving relationship can be established with this. I understand it’s annoying and no one likes interruption, but autistic people primarily has social impairment aka their brain is wired differently and it takes time for them to learn about certain social behaviors.


If you want it to work it out, be patient and practice better communication on both ends. Tell her kindly how it made you feel and have her practice with you. It’s not an overnight change esp for them.

We're all socially inept. We don't get the social cues or know how to express them. I'm 34 and have the social intelligence of a highschooler. If you want someone who can be socially intelligent, you shouldn't have chosen a neurodivergent. It's not like we hide it really well.
