Good question.

I think I'm fairly average. I can detect motivations sometimes, especially if I'm not cognitively loaded attending to other things at the same time, but it is patchy. There is a very wide range of individual skill here: some people pick up almost nothing, some more than I do. But even for the excellent people readers, their impressions are patchy and incomplete, in my experience.

I'm pretty good at it yes, I have my own communities and there you definitely need that skill. That said, I am self aware enough that there is a confirmation bias. If I misjudge it will come across entirely justified. But I rarely get confronted with me misjudging anyone and if I give the benefit of the doubt they usually proof my original assumption correct.

Yes. People aren't as individual as they think. They bend over backwards to fit in and be liked by their peers. They keep their opinion hidden to keep their jobs or not lose a potential ally.

Give them the illusion of power, make them think you're not a threat, or needed, and their true nature shows through.

Often I've been really observant since a young boy I can tell who I'm talking to quite fast, most don't seem to have a clue who are they talking to. I've studied 6 psychologist too their not really what normal people think they are.
