Leaving my Apartment, my married friend found her car had been stolen. I would not take her home. Was I wrong?

She said her husband was in Huston, Texas, and that she took him to the Airport. I was REALLY concerned that he had her followed, suspecting she was cheating, and that someone was waiting at her home to see who brought her home and reporting to the husband on his return.

She was furious and never spoke to me again. Was I wrong, in doing that?

I mean, if she was being followed wouldn't they have noticed and reported back that she got in your car and then was dropped off at the driveway/parking lot? Those kinds of people usually take a lot of photos. You most likely would have been absolved if it were a professional anyway.

That being said, if I was that uncomfortable with it, I would have either talked to the spouse on the phone beforehand to get their blessing or, at worst, offered to help them get an Uber (not necessarily paying for, but calling one if they needed). I am sure the spouse would have understood that more. Either way, the police report in conjunction with the heads-up it was happening would have made both very forgiving and appreciative in my opinion. If the husband still was adamant not to let you, then wash your hands of it and go about your day. At least then you tried.

Unfortunately, you've possibly lost a friend from this difficult situation.

This was some time ago, so no Uber was available, in retrospect, I could have called a Taxi, but at the time I was so nervous about her car being gone I was not clear headed. I could not have called her spouse, because of her cheating on him, but I guess I could have explained it away somehow.

@Agape93 No, hardly the case. Suspected her husband or his friend had her followed and took her car. Just too coincidental for her car to be 'stolen' at random. We called the police, and the police took her home, to avoid ME being shot to death by her husband, which had just happened to a co-worker's brother, under similar circumstances. This was many moons ago, and now there are many alternatives to resolve the problem. At the time, (in my 20's) I did not have the maturity to react to the situation in a more adult, mature manner.

if... if, this person is your friend, I would assume you had "reasons" to suspect that the husband was some sort of whacko to actually do all that, and plan a fake stolen car situation

or... her car was really stolen, and the whacko husband did nothing at all to help her, then I think you decided not to risk and not to mess with any of that whackery... lol

@NathanDavis Probably the main reason was guilt/fear for having an affair with a beautiful, married coworker. She had previously asked me to accompany her to a company event downtown. I agreed and took her and was going to take her home. She suggested, "... that maybe we could stop for a drink." I had other plans that night and instead took her home.

The affair started after that night, and we met at my place several times before the 'stolen car' event. I was paranoid when the car was taken from a lot with 50-60 other cars, and the 'fear' started then. A coworker had just had her brother shot-to-death weeks previously, in a similar situation. Turned out the car was used in a 'car bombing' in Cleveland, that killed a Cleveland mobster. I was relieved to get out of the situation that turned very ugly later.

@Cidknee at the time, I did not have the 'brains" to think it through. She dumped me and took up with another guy in our huge company. It REALLY got ugly after that. Don't know how long she had been cheating in her husband or if he EVEN knew about her cheating.
I just did not want to be shot, bringing her home to any 3 party or maybe her husband

I understand everyone's feeling of frustration with AI on this site, looking at this response from the COMPUTER. No one was left stranded; the Police took her home. A co-worker's brother was shot to death under similar circumstances when an EX HUSBAND went to her house and shot the man to death. This is one of the really stupid comments from the AI on this site... very unnecessary
