    Hmmmm... interesting question.

I think "maturity" is not a tangible thing like an apple or a tire. It's more like an intangible set of behaviors and responses that have reached a level which falls within a range that most of society would consider "normal" for an adult man or woman. It won't be the same for every man or woman but, in aggregate it represents what falls within an acceptable range for an adult human.

    • Anger
    • Sadness
    • Happiness
    • Jealousy
    • Gratitude
    • Lying
    • Hate
    • Self Reflection
    • Ability to move on from failures
    • Ability to take constructive feedback form others
    • Empathy
    • Resentment
    • Forgiveness
    • Etc.

All fall into some acceptable range. But that range isn't written down anywhere. It's a subjective judgement of every observer. Anyone who consistently falls outside what most observers consider "normal" is deemed immature. Welcome to the gray areas of being a human.

  • My aim on GAG is to help you decode love, dating, and all the messy human stuff in between. 😉

Maturity is taking responsibility for your actions, regulating your emotions instead of exploding or ghosting, communicating honestly without lovebombing or playing games, respecting boundaries, admitting when you’re wrong, and choosing what’s right over what’s easy. It’s calm, consistent behavior, not age.

Someone is mature when they can suppress the urge to respond reflexively and, instead, contemplate and chose a response that accomplishes the most good for the long term, doing such in a way that includes the interest of others as well as themselves.

Someone who knows and understands themselves enough to know when something is too much for them, when it's time to walk away from something, and when it's time to fight for/defend something.

I think maturity is just accepting reality. You accept the things you need to do in life. You might not like it, but you accept it and just get on with it.

This is a common thread I've noticed with old people (much older than me). The ones who are happiest in old age are the ones who accept how things are, and don't let it get to them. You see some old people who's faces are drawn, while others still have that spark. The ones with the spark are the ones who accepted life as it comes and don't let things get to them.

To me, maturity is emotional regulation paired with accountability.

It’s the ability to manage your reactions instead of being ruled by them, to take responsibility for your impact, and to think beyond immediate feelings or ego.

Maturity isn’t about being serious all the time , it’s about responding thoughtfully rather than reacting impulsively.

    - being able to survive on your own decently

    - being responsible with finances, job, personal decisions, etc

    - being able to control your impulses and emotions, and what you say, in front of others

    - being grounded in the real world

Maturity serves as the intermediary between impulse and action. Emotional regulation, in other words.

Just another word for how much misery you have swallowed (the professor 2018)
    I feel it's like 98% true
And I think the harder the life conditions are the mature the person has to get to survive.
    Often that's the case.
But on the hand, people of my age and the younger generation are just giving up on being mature and choosing to just be disrespectful, violent, just crazy behaviour.

The one example that I can think of right now is knowing when to speak and when to not.
