I would say equal parts loyalty and sticking by someone. When I say sticking by someone I don’t mean staying with someone who’s abusive, cheating, or is willfully not contributing to the relationship. But when it comes to health, financial issues (out of your control), and other things like that. Those are the situations that tests how much someone really loves someone. Because someone can love you when things are going well. Now again…. if things are going too well someone who doesn’t genuinely love you will leave then too. Ever heard of blessings in disguise? People go through hardships. Get left by their wife or husband but years later have someone amazing and a better life. Meanwhile the shitbags life is now miserable after a season of whatever.

Loyalty too. Someone who genuinely loves you and stays loyal through it all. Not just staying but is also loyal.

I think it has to be sacrifice. When you give up something of your own, be it effort, energy, emotion, or time, with no benefit to yourself simply for the benefit of another that’s the ultimate expression of caring. In my opinion at least.
