Are lasting, truly monogamous relationships still realistic today?

I wish to believe that relationships can last, and that its not only me who desires for a monogamous relationship. But I see more people indulging in the opposite then anything.

People are either with you cuz they enjoy the variety, the opportunity, whatever you give or provide, etc. Or they are merely settling with you (while admiting so) because they didn't have anything better to chose from.

So many people say that humans are only as faithful as their options. And around me, till now, that has proved to be more realistic then the thought of people actually settling WITH YOU, cuz they actually wanna form with you something long lasting and serious.

Am I maybe too naive and should abandon monogamy to be a realistic expectation? Should I approach relationships for the sake of my own mental health more pragmatically, if I do not wanna get hurt? Or would it be more realistic for people like me in such a cultural climate to remain celibate, if most monogamous people are practically at this point like unicorns?

Producing babies and raising them is naturally more successful and stable when parents are committed to a single, shared, everlasting relationship. Despite the rise of dating and hookup culture, younger generation has significant interest in monogamy among younger generations, and rejection of the supposed disorders of non-monogamous alternatives. Infidelity and shifting social norms exist, but the desire for a "forever" partner remains a strong, achievable reality for those who choose to have strong relationships.

Yes if both people are willing to stay loyal and together. As well as set healthy boundaries and leave relationships that aren’t fulfilling for their own sake but also not wasting someone else’s time.

If someone lacks integrity and self control. They will probably cheat….. at some point or another. Some people are never happy and yes will always seek more. Especially narcissists….. they need the supply. They need fall backs. Nothings ever good enough. Just avoid them.

Some people feel insecure dating “out of their league” but I would rather someone with me because they want me. Not because I’m the best house in a bad neighborhood.

Your job isn’t to abandon monogamy, it’s to raise your standards. No lovebombing, no “you’re the best I can get” energy, no “I’d be loyal if I had fewer options” nonsense. You’re not a consolation prize. You’re the person someone chooses even when they have options.
