Do you believe that music (songs) and love would have been better and more meaningful if we never had social media and the Internet to influence us?

I guess we will never know. But my educated guess would be that more people would be in loving and happy relationships if they hadn't had this outside influence giving out the new definition of what love is supposed to be and what it's supposed to look like.

I think that back in the day, it took thousands of dollars and dozens of hours to make one song.

A guy in an expensive suit in a nice office had to stake their career and identity on why they thought a song was good enough to be worth risking the tens of thousands a record company commits to any given artist.

Meaning there's a certain objectivity that I think is lost now. The measures of music that touches your heart, gives you goosebumps, makes you feel or remember or forget or teach you something. Someone had to clearly explain why their guy was better than someone elses hundreds of other people were backing.

Now anybody with a laptop and a phone with a microphone can put out a song that could produce millions of dollars in revenue. It doesn't have to be good objectively, people just need to like it enough to listen to an ad every 5 songs.

So you got all these kids making music for a couple grand or maybe even free if they're that Billie eyelash girl.

This is my personal opinion based on my own (lack of) experience with social media. Besides GaG, I have no social media, I have no subscription to any streaming music and I solely listen to radio stations that broadcast pre-1990 music, when to es were still harmonious and there was practically no "boom boom boom" type of cacophony and spoken or recited texts that mostly contain swear words, are demeaning to women and have usually no meaning.

I am the type of person that listens to music from the 50s to the 70s when music was actually music and singers made an effort to sing with their own voices and not AI manipulated.

To sum up: yes, you cannot compare real music from times gone by with today's kind of noise.

I only listen to music 🎶 from the 60's, 70's and 80's.
I do enjoy the YouTube music 🎶 they offer - especially when it's the greatest hits from the music I remember and love. No advertisements, and some of them are live, so I can see the bands playing their music like a mini concert.
I also only use GaG as my only social media outlet. I have never even visited the other sites, but I already know that I wouldn't want to be on them.
I'm just wondering if there wasn't ever the Internet and people didn't have any preconceived ideas of what love is supposed to be, that they would find out naturally and more people would be in meaningful love relationships then the way it is now. ?

and not everyone was "better"

those who were inadequate, were still inadequate... you just didn't get to see them so present, so the only difference today is that they are more present online... and also in a more "condensed" way, so they seem to be the "most of the people and most in things in life are like this" but that's just an illusion

music and songs are a very good example of that... nowadays you can "go viral" and become a "sensation" and also "everyone is talking about it" when in reality... it's only a subgroup of no more than 300,000 people... in a country with 300 million for example

most people don't care for it and don't even know it... but in their own micro-cosmos of the internet they're the biggest hit of the year... lol

I usually say the old days were nicer but I do think that social media did wonders for music


There are so many forgotten hits that are now trending again because everyone is using them on TikTok and such.
