Catfishing your significant other to see if they cheat?

Why do people do this? Why does the boyfriend or girlfriend pretend to be someone else and see if they would cheat on them? What are they trying to accomplish?

Every girl I've seen do that... I've watched that same girl cheat herself in due time. I haven't seen a guy do it, but I would bet my testicles he's got cheating on the brain just like the females I've seen do it.

See here is my theory based on what I've seen and had to deal with. Cheaters, constantly think about cheating. So they start looking for reasons to justify fucking someone else. They're looking for it... later on, if they don't get that justification... they'll start making up reasons and eventually they just cheat themselves. Now, if they find what they were looking for from the start... they just hit fast forward to the 'fucking other people' part.

And I don't think I'm alone in thinking that... after talking to a lot of people about it... tons of people have delt with phone snoopers, the catfishing you're asking about, or those chicks that has one of their friends try to seduce... all just to eventually get cheated on by them.

I just read other people's opinions and I saw "Trust Issues" a couple times... that fits nicely into my theory. Of course they don't trust their partner. I mean they're in the relationship too and they can't stop thinking about cheating themselves. It's sort of like projection.

Thanks for the MHO... this is one of those time where I feel like I earned it. I've been burned by people that do this shit... they'll make my life hell for years (accusing me of shit I'm not doing and looking for it) only just to end up cheating on me.

For anyone that's dealing with that kind of person... get rid of them. Get them the fuck out of your life. Just trust me on that one. The sex might be good, but that's how I got my first and only 2 STD's... just saying. I wasn't even cheating, but was always the cheater or at least accused of it. It also turned me into a cheater over time... eventually I had to pay that bitch back. At least I never brought home fucking STD's... that fucking slut... damn I hate that bitch.

That is so wrong on so many levels, if you dont trust that person then you shouldn't be that person and really the relationship is over and done in my mind, it shouldn't continue, thats where if your not pleasing that person then dont do something as low as catfishing to catch them out, just fess up and be honest, if it doesn't work out, then move on and get over it

It's display of insecurity. It's worse when their partner make proposals to cheat and you stay in front of a dilemma should I say that or should I forget. In few cases I chose to tell them, they weren't surprised and had rather the attitude "why do you humiliate me like that."
Cheaters aren't just toxic for people they cheat on but for people they cheat with.
Imagine a scenario when your friend ask you "seduce him a bit to look if he is willing to cheat" and he is willing to cheat. Who do you think your friend will punish for that? Her boyfriend who wants to cheat but she is addicted to relationship with him or you as the person who is a high threat for her relationship?

People catfish their partner because they don’t trust them but can’t admit it. It’s pure insecurity plus a dash of control. They want “proof” without honest communication. Big red flag. If you need to fake an identity to test loyalty, the relationship is already cracked. Trust > traps.
