That has not been my experience. Every relationship I have had has caused my heart to grow. Love is abundant, not scarce. You gain the ability to love through practice, rather than having it taken away when relationships end.

There is always a feeling of loss. But the loss is compared with what you once imagined might be your future, not compared with what you had before the relationship.

My 2c anyway.

Everyone is different when it comes to what happens to you and how different you feel after you end a relationship.

Maybe you will be guarding your heart more before giving it to someone again.

But you have to look at it in a way that if you don't save as much as you can of your heart by ending a relationship that's not working out and staying in it far longer than you should have will damage your heart more because more hurt has happened.

It probably can be easy to confuse not getting yourself back fully and just realizing that you did, but you're just a very different version of yourself after enough time and effort and change in your circumstances from beginning to end.
