What profession do people romanticize the most but is actually soul crushing?

Being a warrior is probably not anything like most people romanticize in their minds based on the way Hollywood uses the material to sell tickets. And that's been true throughout history.

The general public and career military live in different universes. If a civilian has never lived that life they can't understand what it's like, all the little things. A military base is like a self contained small or medium sized town, literally walled off from normal society, that most people never get to see.

By the same token a person whose entire adult life has been a series of military bases all over the world and combat / training for combat can't relate to people who have grown up and lived in one place their entire lives insulated from all the nasty shit that goes on in this world and a job at Starbucks or a factory or as an accountant.

I'd say anything show business / Hollywood stuff like.

And no doubt high pressure situations like surgeon, doctor, nurse - healthcare or even difficult labour jobs.

Or even prison jobs 😑

I'd say nursing is probably one of the top ones. Guys fantasizing about having the "hot nurse" but in reality that has to be a super tough job.

Having to see people sick and injured. Seeing family upset when their loved ones are in pain. All that stuff has to be really hard.

Teaching – underpaid, overworked, emotionally drained.
Nursing – compassion fatigue, burnout, crazy shifts.
Game dev / creative fields – “dream job” masking crunch time and exploitation.
Therapy / counseling – carrying everyone’s trauma while no one checks on yours.

Looks glamorous, feels like red-flag burnout. 💔
