Would you cheat to win millions or lose with dignity for less?

If you were in any competition and you'll get paid millions for that (and even get publically recognized as the winner) but if you lose you get a lot less for participating and you'll remain just an average person.. would you

- Cheat and win the prize; knowing very well you didn't deserve. You cheated your way to win.

- Try your best but lose with dignity. You get paid a lot less. You only get money for participating.

Depends on the cost of cheating and the risk of getting caught. It also depends if someone needed it more.

I'd probably lose fair and square, but I'm not above cheating depending the the situation. Like I needed the money to save my friend who had cancer. You'd bet I'd cheat all day!

Define "cheat".

Because at the highest level of competition the line gets pretty blurry on what is legal and illegal, fair and unfair.

Don't get me wrong i do have a sense of fair play and right and wrong. This is also why i choose my competition. Because if i have to go to the level where i need to win at all costs, then i simply don't want to play. I am a competitive person when it's brought out of me. Which is why i avoid playing other super competitive people. Because even i beat them i still feel like i lost because they robbed me of the ENJOYMENT of FRIENDLY competition.

It would depend on what the competition was about. Cheating would be deceiving others into thinking you won fair either no one knows or the ones in charge purposely set it up for you to win. If it's a history competition where you have to give the correct answers, you already managed to get access to all the questions and answers. If it's a sports competition, the manager and others played dirty (ex: calling foul on the other when it isn't) even they told you in advance it's set up for you but it's a secret between you and them.
If it's a cooking competition you switched a recipe or change their ingredient with something similar to the product getting cooked.

This is why i asked. For the history competition. Kind of like the game show Jeopardy contestants ARE given the questions and answers. You just don't know exactly what questions of those will be asked. Even if you have the questions and answrs you'd still have to memorize them. Unless you were able to pull off someone feeding you the answers through an earpiece. And the greater the prize, the greater the scrutiny.
The sports competition is simple. Since it was the OTHER guy (the ref) calling a foul on you. HE CHEATED, not you. And if caught you can flat out say you had nothing to do with it.
If it's a cooking competition you can say it's their own fault for not checking their ingredients. There are all kinds of unsavory people at these things. Their lack of preparation is NOT your fault.

I'm not trying to be a jerk by poking holes in all your examples, and of course, you can disagree with anything i posted. Everything i posted is dirty to be sure. But i'm just trying to make the point that it's either a friendly competition or it's not. And if it's not i'm going to do what i need to do to bend to rules to the absolute breaking point to win. Because i KNOW my competition will do the same.
This is why i'm picky about who i get into competitions with. Because either it's friendly, or it's not. And if it's not, I PLAY TO WIN at ALL COSTS.
And i really don't want to be that guy.

It would depend entirely on the situation. I've never been one to follow rules because they are rules. They don't necessarily reflect morality.

No I don’t think so. The real purpose of competition is to prove your qualities. I’d imagine victory won with a lot of heart feels a lot better because it cost you much effort and that’s priceless. If I cheat to win millions, I would just be robbing the better opponent and what goes around comes around.
