I think people forget that kids are highly intuitive, and can absolutely sense things like emotional distance, resentment, even silent tension/anger between the parents. Unless the couple are genuinely able to move on, then the environment post-cheating is almost always emotionally unstable.


I envision lingering resentment, lack of trust, maybe even lying, which only keeps the conflict going for the parents, not to mention any arguments the kids could witness. So while these parents are thinking that staying together for the kids is beneficial sacrifice, I think it may ultimately result in the kids experiencing long term behavioral and/or emotional struggles.


Even despite your best efforts, they can still grow up having a mentality that it’s ok and even normal to accept dishonesty, low self worth, and betrayal as signs of love and care. All this to say, a broken home may be better than a dysfunctional one, and a peaceful home matters more than a “complete” one. Like they can absolutely thrive with separated but emotionally stable, happy parents.

I would not know until it happened, but probably not. Trust is too importan. I don't think I could forgive my ideal partner for something worse than she already did, but we are a pretty crazy spot right now.
