How to convince someone they're not too old for you?

I have this great friend who's 22. We haven't known each other more than a couple of weeks, but I really like him, and I'm pretty sure he likes me too. Still, sometimes he starts going on about him being too old to be my friend. I'm 16 by the way. What can I say to make him change his mind? Do you guys think the age difference is too big for anything to happen between us?

I hate to say this, but right now that age difference is a bit too much. When you're out of high school it won't be such a big deal, but now it is a very big thing. College aged people and high schoolers have completely different world experiences and needs and priorities. If you still want to go for it, just be cautious.

He is too old for you. At your age, I didn't understand why guys his age were so frightened about it either. But trust me when I say he's being a good guy by staying away. Dating/sex is a whole different ball game at 22. Not to mention he'll go to jail.

Just tell him he'll only end up in jail if you have sex, which you don't intend to. (I assume)
