What in the world is "wifey" status

My 16 year old sister keeps talking about how her guy friends refer their girlfriends as wifey. WTF does that mean? I know I know I should know this but seriously I'm lost in her lingo.

The way that I take it from personal experience before me and my ex boyfriend started dating he told all his friends that he would wife me up and that basically means what it says, they see their girl has potential wife material on day! but the age of 16 is way to young to be thinking about that stuff!

"wifey" is urban slang to referring to a female a guy is dating that he can envision marrying. :)

However, at age 16, no offense to them, but I don't know if they take it that literally.

At the VERY least, her boyfriend sees being with her for a VERY long time [as in several years].

"wifey" is a term guys from ghetto backgrounds use to refer to their girlfriends if they view them as long term relationship material. you'll hear it mentioned a lot in rap music but no other type of music if that tells you what types of people use it.

its just slang for girlfriend, either between a guy and girl who are dating, between two girls who are dating, or between two girls who are close plantonic friends.

Reading the answers down there educated me a bit, too. I'd only heard a few people use it, but it's always been between girls, almost as if a substitute for "best friend."
