I know that he really respects me & cares about me but do you think that he could mean more than just loving me in a friendly way?

Quite dicey I would say, because normally even friends say that to each other...be it guy-guy or guy-girl and vice versa...mostly girls don't say that because of fear of being taken otherwise, I was once said that by a girl I barely knew which sent a current through my body I remember! :D I have said that to girls who I really care about, who are my best friends...sadly not to the ones I loved and cared about :-D...but you never know what he meant, you can figure that out from the way he looks at you, his body language, his advances etc...though I won't be surprised even if he meant it in the real sense C ;-)

Well that is a hard one to make assumptions on but I think he was just being friendly.

If he starts calling you nicknames or petnames then that is a sign of interest.

Like "Goodnight my princess ;)", "Dear little red riding hood, I wanted to say goodnight, from big bad wolf", "Goodnight babe ;)"

I say this all the time to all of my close friends.

It's dangerous for you because if I say it then it usually means that I'm comfortable around the person. Like really comfortable. Which means if you change the relationship dynamic then I will be a little throw off.

Without knowing more, it's really hard to tell.

I most certainly never mean it romantically unless I say it to someone that I'm dating.

Want to hear the truth?

When guy sees a girl as just-friend, he will treat her the same as his male friends, as his buddies - he will buddy-punch her shoulder, he will drink beer with her, he will play video games with her, he will go to watch a monster truck race with her.

As soon as there appears any kind of 'lovely-dovely' stuff or, even if he's "too nice" or shy around her for no particular reason (f.e. they know each other already for some time) - he's interested. Yes - in THAT way.

It could be that he really deeply cares about you as a friend or that he wants more it is really hard to say. I have several friends that I tell them similar phrases daily sometimes morning, night, afternoon or just casually popping it in. If there my best friends and I really feel comfortable with them I'm going to tell them what I feel them how I feel about them.

That is pretty touching words, but hard to say just from that alone. He could love you as a friend, or, he could mean more.
