My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 months, just for the record. I kind of feel like he's holding back in a way. Like he's afraid of disappointing me or something? He ASKS if he can call me. I just wish this would come more naturally to him by now. Sometimes I feel more like a friend..

We don't see each other too often (once a week) so maybe it's the comfortable-ness factor. How can I make him more comfortable with me? Maybe that's not the word. I can't quite explain it. Hopefully someone understands me..

He was in a toxic past relationship for over a year that damaged him. Which I understand. Prob why he hasn't said those 3 words yet either. I just wish he would treat me more like a girlfriend. He said he has a ton of feelings for me but doesn't know how to show it...

The toxic past relationship explains why he would hold back. For example if his ex criticized him all the time when he did something as natural as calling her, then he might still be gun shy. If that's the case it could be he's afraid you will turn on him. As he has more and more experience seeing that you are entirely different than she was, he should start to trust you and open up more.

Since he has tons of feelings, perhaps you can help him find ways to show them. If he can't express them verbally, encourage him to express them in other ways. Be sure to respond positively when he does express how he feels even indirectly. Invite him to surprise you with creative ways to show how he feels. Hopefully that will open him up and make your relationship more enjoyable for both of you.

Perhaps the both of you should have a heart to heart talk. You'll need to sit him down, express your feelings and thoughts. Ask him questions, tell him you need to hear his answers. Tell him what you want in the relationship. Guessing and wishing will not fix your situation.
