Your life is like a building with a foundation and a subsequent build up. When you build your life on the foundation of service and integrity and humility and respect, you have a firm foundation that can prepare you for the second layer of love and compassion and forgiveness and kindness. This can prepare you for the foundation of joy and optimism and gratitude and hope.
Religious people have the same goals as non religious people: They want to get married, they want kids or pets, they want money to support their household and enjoy their lives, they want to have health in their bodies and respect. What Makes religious people different is their foundation. They prioritize God above beauty and power.
They prioritize family above social status and self gratification. They prioritize kindness above money. It’s not that religious people want different things from non religious people, but the order in which they pursue those things is different.
A woman with unhealthy priorities and values beauty above health might become anorexic to become skinny. A man with unhealthy priorities might marry a woman who abused his children because the woman is beautiful and rich. A parent who has unhealthy priorities might teach their child to lie thinking it will make her rich, and than find her kid abandoning him when he is old and in need of care because she thinks lying about taking care of him is easier than caring for him.
This is why I believe life is easier when you build on an ethical foundation and not on a circumstantial one.
