How can I make my religion more attractive to people?

I was watching a documentary about Italy last night. When the Turks invaded, they would put symbols of their regime in the churches, which made it easier for the masses to accept their influence.

Clever idea, but a little different from my problem. You see, while people do generally like and accept me superficially, once they find out my religion they rebel against me.

A little background about my religion: I'm convinced that I'm a supernatural entity and that I should be worshiped. I believe that if you put a picture of me on an altar and make me your Lord and Master that you will learn the rewards of obedience. If people would only try submitting themselves to me, they would understand.
