Why humility is better than intelligence

My observations on life suggest to me that humble people end up with happier lives then those intelligent ones that lack humility, I’ve heard of Harvard graduates who get conned into abusive relationships by men who pretend to love them for money and my cousin who won first place in a computer programming competition as a finance major, always pretended to be incredibly dumb around her boyfriend because she thought guys preferred stupid woman while her boyfriend would always go out of his way to show off how smart he was to impress her. A humble person wins more friends than a smart person because when your intelligent, your dealing with equally intelligent people who are not influenced by your above average intellectual scores.

This is incredibly specific for the mentioned case, but I really don't think this is how Humility vs Intelligence works, you really should factor the other personality traits, you're missing the real enemy, ego

I agree that humble people do get farther.. the more prideful a person is the more issues they run into down the road "humble yourself or be humbled" kind of thing

Humility is the essence of learning and learning is how one becomes intelligent. The problem is halfway to intelligence a lot of people seem to notice how few others even bothered with the humility needed to start on the path, and that's when they are at greatest risk of becoming conceited or insecure.

A humble mind is a peacful mind. That mind is not offended by what is seen. A humble mind will not make fear giving laws trying to appease offended fallen beings that are in the minds of people. I think you can have a balance. You can be intelligent but don’t need to rub it in peoples faces. My pride is the most important to me. I will never ever beg for something or do anything that I find degrading. I don’t believe in bragging about achievements because no one cares. You can be humble about them but I believe having pride is also important

It's not like that, if you are very smart, people will assume that you are arrogant. Even if you are not, people don't like being wrong, it makes them feel stupid. Very smart people see the world in a different shade and chances are higher they will be right in most cases. But even if they are humble about it the other person will take it as arrogance as it called their thinking and eventually hurt their ego.
Now if you add gender to this problem, smart girls will never properly fit with dumb guys. They can be their best only with smarter guys, otherwise, they have to always dumb it down. Most female scientists and biologists and doctors generally marry similar guys.

Nobody cares, intelligence is nonetheless valued more than humbleness.
Intelligent people are often successful, so people go with those who better their ego or image than those who maybe have morals but are not as successful.


It‘s always been like that and will never change. People don’t value humbleness.

You have unusual ideas about humility and intelligence.

Harvard graduates aren’t necessarily intelligent. They had the money or resources to get into Harvard and passed their classes. For all you know they did the bare ass minimum, could care less about academia, and graduated with a C average.

Humility doesn’t win you any friends. No one brags about how humble they are, and no one says “gee you’re so humble, I want to hang out with you!”

Humility is indeed superior. A humble mind is like a blank canvas eager, and willing to incorporate new thoughts, and ideas without any mental blocks due to arrogance, or one's own hubris.

Humility, and charity are the pillars of wisdom. Only through wisdom can the acquisition and correct distribution of knowledge be realized. You claim that humility is for the meek. You obviously don't understand that ignorance, and arrogance are antonyms of each other. Ignorance is a lack of knowledge that is not à deliberate case of cognitive dissonance. Arrogance is a deliberate case of cognitive dissonance. It is the premeditative withholding of the truth. It is self imposed ignorance.
