I would say it’s because suffering prepares us for Heaven and forgiveness for sins and blessings in the after life. Jesus said his followers would have to share in his suffering to share in his rewards so the suffering of Jesus does not nullify the suffering of those who believe in him.

That is the ultimate question isn't it? I don't know if their is or is not a god but this question I think is what makes it so hard to believe for most people. I think that it depends on how you see god. If you see god through a purely christian lens then I honestly don't think their is an answer because you cannot reconcile a perfect and all powerful benevolent god who interevenes on human's behalf with the world as brutal and cruel as it is.
Now their is the Aghori of india who, to put it very simply, believe that all things are perfect. Basically the creator god was perfect ergo everything that their creator god created is by extension perfect i. e. their is no good or evil life and death pain and pleasure, duality is an illusion and its our perception of reality that makes us see things as good or bad. All of these things are in their eyes, one thing. . . existence and to claim one is good and another bad is kind of like saying one cell in your body is good but another bad when in reality they simply serve different functions to maintain the whole. That is the best way I can describe it based upon my limited knowledge of their philosophy and religion.
So that could be one thing to consider. Another is the divine watchmaker (or I think of it as the divine scientist) view of god which is that god created the universe and its mechanisms and wound it up and now its running on its own without his intereference and for what ever reason he does not intervene. That would also explain the things we see in our reality. I call it the divine scientist because to me that makes sense (though again, I'm agnostic, I don't know if their is or is not a god (i don't know if humans will ever be able to answer that question definitively)) as we create experiments within petri dishes and watch cells and microscopic animals live their lives out in order to understand ourselves but like those cells we do not intervene we just observe and study. Perhaps this is why bad things happen, because while god may not wish for bad things to happen its part of the experiment he is conducting.
Another view could be that he has a different form of morality then we do (as he would be arguablly far more complex then we are and so our morality would be far more simplistic in comparison to his own views) and we simply cannot see how these awful things can be of benefit to anyone. However if we look our knowledge usually comes from failure and suffering. For example we learned about the human brain largely because of people who have suffered brain damage and seeing where things broke we figured out what they do and that in turn gave us greater knowledge and by extension the capacity to fix those problems which have helped far more people then have been hurt by these events. So it could be that is why he allows bad things to happen, so that humanity as a whole learns and grows stronger from it.
Though obviously all of these are purely speculations and could very well be nothing more then rationalizations. In the end, I don't know and I don't think any one can ever truly know.I don't like to think that there is some entity playing puppeteer. That would imply we have no free will or control over our own actions. The same with God forgiving us for our sins. People have yet another reason to accept not having any morals.
Saying that God or anyone allowed anything to happen is saying that life is utterly pointless to live since it's being dictated.
Life is simply what you make of it. Bad things that happen have the ability to change a person at their core. See it for what it is by embracing that learning and experiences are needed to fully appreciate not only your own life but everyone's life around you. To actually live life.
Their is beauty in darkness. It’s the only thing that can make the light have any value or power. Without it, life holds no meaning.
No I'm not an atheist nor do I believe in the normal concepts of God, the Bible and religion. My beliefs are entirely my own and I hope you're not taking it as me bashing your religion because I respect all beliefs but this was just my honest opinion.one reason bad things happen is because the whole world is under the control of the evil one it says in 1 John 5:19 "We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one." That’s why Jesus taught us to ask God to deliver us from the evil one when we pray Even in the Garden of Eden — in paradise, before Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit — Satan was already there, waiting to tempt them to disobey God
Another reason bad things happen is because people sin. The reason why God allows people to sin and be tempted to sin is not for us to know — at least for now (Deuteronomy 29:29). What we do know is that when bad things happen, we should not rage against God. To revolt against God is to fall prey to the devil. The devil is a liar (John 8:44) and wants us to believe that God is blameworthy. But the Bible says that God is light; in him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). God is not the enemy; Satan is the enemy. Through his Spirit God empowers us to war against the enemy by following Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior — during good times and bad times. He put us all on this planet to make choices sometimes we make the wrong choice. Sometimes is cause and effect. Sometimes we don't let other people make choices for us. What does choices there comes consequences that's why I hate our government having too much control but us because their choices affects us. When you try to teach your kids something you don't allow them to do something put them in time out and two minutes later say okay did you learn your lesson. And your kids get a look at you and say yes I did my lesson was no matter what I do no matter who it affects you're going to let me go within 2 minutes I know your question is deeper than that let me give you one big scenario if you look at everything going on in the world right now did you look at the cause and effect of it all it's from all governments from Rich businesses buying their way to get what they want here's the part that I hate but I love we all have to suffer all the little people have to suffer but the outcome is going to be the meek inherit the earth
I thought of something one day and bear with me.
Supposedly, in the end every one will be judged for there actions, using that as a base line...
I call it a side effect of freewill, if everything were perfect there would be no way to tell who the real assholes are in the end run, unfortunately. Even god can't predict our moves having freewill, soooo there's really only one way to find out.
Not mention the only way to truly get to an area of supposed (no suffering) would be to remove freewill and control everything, AKA "why does god allow suffering", kind of like a "have your cake but can't eat it scenario", there has to be free will in order to judge.
This can even come into play with what you call "natural suffering", even animals deal with "natural suffering", but this is where the ignorance is bliss/freewill thing kinda comes into play, "natural suffering" would be more of an unfortunate side effect of having that freewill in a natural world. Again can't have one without the other, catch 22 type of deal.
Just something I though of one day while pondering the very same question, so I figured I'd throw it out there, I like to think what can I say. What makes you think God allows it?
When God created the World He gave dominion over it to humanity, who through sin handed that authority to Satan.
Christ came and through His sacrifice and Resurrection took the authority back and offered it back to all who would accept Him as a way back to the Father.
So right now, authority over this World is held by Satan (the ruler of this age), fallen humanity (those who reject Christ), redeemed humanity (those who accept Christ) and Jesus Himself.
Since Satan seeks to steal, kill and destroy and fallen humanity keeps handing their authority to him, and currently the redeemed humanity lacks both the numbers and for the most part understanding to fight against the powers and principalities of this present age, bad things keep happening.
As Christians, we live with the Hope of the Future in our hearts, that if we die before Christ returns we will be with Him in Heaven until He returns, and if He returns before we die we will see His return as He comes to make all things new - to restore Creation to how God originally designed it - no sorrow. No suffering. No sickness. No death.
And we'll have Eternity to enjoy it.God said, my people die for sake of ignorance. God is spirit. If you must worship him you must also worship him in truth and spirit.
Now walking in the spirit requires a subtuning concience walk with your core "God". If you have no connection with tour core , you soon wither off the surface of the earth.
Wether we like is or not, God has enemies and his enemies are also unseen. Now , if you dont connect with your core, how can you be fortified against His enemies?
God has a strategy, He is Almighty and all powerful and yes, he is soveringn and He has a huge resoect attached to his words, which is common with authorities. So When He declears a thing, He is not negotiating , so yes, He's a dictator, but fortunately for us his thoughts for us are of good and not of evil to give us a future and a hope.
People suffer not because God dont care, people suffer beacuse God is not there. Yes, even though he sees, but if you are not in his circle of protection, you're not safe.
So look for God, He's just a prayer awayI believe that sometimes we go through bad things to help us and build our character. Because I know in the Bible it talks about how hard times help us have patience. So I think that bad times can help us be better people sometimes. I also think to because if bad things never happened and we were always happy and had what we want and needed we would never call out to God for help. God is a jealous God and He doesn't want us serving other gods. So when we Go through hard times we call out to Him and realize we can't help or save ourselves, wich could be a picture as to how we can go to heaven. We cannot save ourselves or do any good of our own to go to heaven, we MUST put our Faith in what Christ dis on the cross, and believe that He died to pay for our sins and our good works can't get us to heaven. Bc if we could go to heaven by our works Christ death would have been in vain, God wants us to NEED and WANT Him. So I belive that hard times can help us call and focus on Christ. I also believe that sometimes He allows bad things to happen as a punishment for something we may have done. Or even to Test our Faith like Job in the Bible. Also bc sometimes God has a will for us even when we don't know what He wants from us. He will allow bad to help us get focused on wjat needs focused on. There was a family Ik that lost their child, they had 2. Well, the dad never payed attention to his kids and once he lost one of his child it helped him realize what he had been doing wrong. He finally payed attention to the one child he still had and realized instead of being focused on what God had taken from him, he focused on the blessings he had and the time he did have with the child he lost. So I believe we go thro pain for many reason but if we look to God He can definitely help us in our hard times:)
Absofuckinlutely... right when everything's smooth sailing life can give you a swift kick to the dick real quick. I had a full ride scholarship for tennis at a D1 school then a month before my leg went dead.. by the time is been to the hospital it became the worst case that the top MS specialist on the east coast had ever seen. Complete with the worst pain I was chronically ill
.. a cripple. I blamed the world and got lost in my pain killers burnt every bridge I ever had and went to San Diego California because my aunt offered, I stole a check from her and her 40 year old son beat the shot out of me dumped me 2 towns away and said you live here now. I felt I was where I belonged and sold drugs on the street while shooting everything I could, jail , drug court 6 month rehab then I got kicked out of my aunt's randomly by my cousin because he was certain I'd fail I stayed clean homeless after I got out of jail for 3 months to prove that I was serious about getting my shit straight. one night walking on the street sure tht I couldn't make it 3 months without hard drugs and I found a St Jude medallion. The patron saint of addicts/hopeless cases. I made it back met my soul mate and got to be a dad to the greatest girl I've ever met and I would have stayed a spoiled shit if I never got sick I'm thankful I did, struggle breeds greatness believe thatGreat question. I will say first that God is a just God and God does not forget any of the evil that goes on in this world and we will all give account one day. Second I will say... God allowing something in no way means God is not good. He actually is a good God in every circumstance. Sending his own son to die for ours sins was the greatest act of love.
Lastly... as a thinking point if God destroyed all evil and suffering in the world at what level would he stop? Lying? Killing? Cheating? Thoughts? We think evil thoughts we do evil things so he would destroy us. But because God is merciful and full of Grace his kindness should draw us to repentance.
All in all. Suffering was brought about as sin entered the world. There is no escaping it. The hope is to trust in God and in the hope of the gospel for heaven where there will be no more tears or sorrowMost bad things that happen to us are in some way our fault anyway.
For example, people knowingly living in New Orleans, 6 to 30 feet below sea level, during hurricane season is their own fault when the storm hits and destroys their house and kills them inside.
Understand?
Wisdom exceeds folly.
I could turn this question on its head and ask, "Why do good things happen to bad people?"
The Bible forbids drug use and alcohol abuse and yet 40% of Americans are DRUNKS and another 45% are "Social Drinkers", and now that the Federal Government has "Legalized" Marijuana, every third car in the fast food drive-thru the people are smoking Marijuana and/or some other illegal drug.
Why do good things happen to bad people?
That answer is simple: The Grace of God.
The answer to your original question is "That's God rebuking you for all the evil you do."The question of course assumes the benevolence of any God that may exist, but we have no reason to think that any divine planner would actually care about us. Do biologists actually care about the microbes they examine through their microscopes? God, if such exists, is indifferent to our fate, and it's possible that this is all just an experiment of some kind.
I think because we have the free will to make choices so whether those choices bring whether it's good or bad, happens. And it doesn't even have to be our choices that effect us. It could be others.
No one really knows but him.
I've been sick since I was a teen. And recently been sicker than ever. When things have gotten too tough I've prayed and got relief. Just happened today. So I'm just thankful for what God does do to help us.(I'll make a disclaimer that I'm an atheist so take my opinion with a pinch of salt)
So when a soldier kills a terrorist, we all agree it's a good thing. When an abusive husband kills her wife, we all agree it's a bad thing. Our understanding of good and bad comes from context of the act, character of the people involved etc. i. e. We mortals understand subjective moral codes. we have no understanding of absolute moral code. So when it comes to fulfilling our absolute purpose in life and beyond, we are unable to understand the cause from an absolute standpoint, we can't tell what our absolute purpose is and hence, we remain oblivious to whether or not the suffering was good or bad.If God did not allow suffering, there would be no free will. There can only be free will, if people are allowed to do good or bad. If we plant a potato, we expect a potato to grow. If we plant an apple tree, we expect to get apples from the tree. But somehow, if we sin, if we do evil, we expect only good things to happen to us. But doing bad things, brings pain. This is true both individually, and corporately.
God gives free will and when you need him and ask for his help he comes.
The problem is people mistake the devil trying to torture and hurt us, as god punishing or allowing us to suffer. For the greater good. This is a mystery as we are unable in this state of being to fully understand this concept. God know all including outcomes.
Right now, I am in a position of suffering in which I cannot get out of. It really, really sucks. There is no way for me to know the outcome of any direction I take, there is no apparent light at the end of this. All I can do is place my trust in God that whatever happens will be for a good I cannot foresee.Have you seen how big the universe is? There are over 5,000 solar systems that have been discovered already and are closely analyzed in the milky way galaxy (ours). And there are All in all, Hubble reveals an estimated 100 billion galaxies in the universe or so, but this number is likely to increase to about 200 billion as telescope technology in space improves.
So ask yourself this question if there was an almighty god Why would he care so much for a little pathetic life form called humans who are pretty much represent by an atom compared to the whole universe in size. God does not care or does he exist. Just because our science does not understand somethings does not mean you can turn around and say "It'S a MIRACLE"!I am not a highly religious person as in church on Sunday read the Bible type. But I do believe in Jesus. Recently my dog was suffering from lymphoma. I prayed heavily for God to end my dogs suffering. She was dead the next morning, she died in her sleep. All I can do is thank God for the good he does. I guess you can't recognize the good without the bad. If everything was peaches and creme, God would probably not be.
He gave us all the warnings and signs we needed.. Humans just don't heed them.. We want to do our own thing.. That's what he gave us free will for.. We make our own decisions and live with the rewards or consequences..
