I'd personally be a bit worried if I heard of a group of people calling themselves a "self religious group"... Mainly coz it sounds cultish and makes me think there'd potentially be some self improvement rituals that could be potentially harmful... Having said that, I think self improvement is important; we should always aim to better ourselves as individuals and communities. I would join a wellness group so long as it didn't have a religious feel to it but was more like classes or seminars on how to improve on yourself and wellbeing (teaching self reflection, meditation, goal setting, etc)

As a Christian, I believe self-improvement is a necessity for a successful faith and not attempting to improve or maintain improvements leads to both damnation and suffering while alive, everyone has a different target area that they need to work on, what matters is not where you stand but what you are doing to improve your standing.

There is no such thing as "self religion" - it's either "cult" or "self directed learning".
