Have you see a lot of fake people at church?

I used to go to a church where half the young people did not believe the bible and just pretended to be religious to find friends when their personalities were so bad that people outside the church did not want them around.

Have I seen fake people at church? ABSOLUTELY! Of COURSE I have. That's why we go. We are ALL flawed, every single one of us. Church wasn't made for the perfect - and hospitals aren't made for people who are well. Church is where we go to meet with other people who KNOW that they are broken and UNDERSTAND they need God's mercy and forgiveness.

So, does that mean every one at church is there for the right reason - to glorify God? No, it doesn't. But maybe, just maybe, by being there, they might begin to get an idea of what it's all about. If I don't do anything else at MY church, I hope maybe something I do or say (whether I know it or not) is what some other person NEEDS to see or hear - that little something that starts her (or him) thinking - hmm... maybe there IS something to this Jesus thing. If so, that's why I'm there.

In my lifetime I have attended many churches in many communities. And most of the people I have come across are NOT fake. Some have different views on what to believe and how to show it, but they are still kind and caring people. I know this because they participate in many outreaches, like providing food to the hungry, visiting shut-ins, repairing and painting homes of those who cannot do it themselves or afford to pay to have it done, and many other acts of helping others.
It is obvious that many congregations are not that caring. The mega churches seem to be full of people who do not even understand what it is to care about others. Certain religions actually put down people who are not part of their congregation. I would never go to those churches!

In fact, lots of religions have faith and belief, but many of them come at it exactly backward, stifling and punishing people instead of loving and leading. Yes i have seen many fake people at church

- they play Nice at church, but are mean after church
- they lie a lot and gossip much about other people
- they make other people feel bad, för exemple they want you to dress in ugly clothes while they dress nice
- they trie to make you follow rules that are not even written in the bible: like no drinking, no smoking, no wearing short clothes, not showing your hair, no wearing makeup. That is not even written in the bibble. Anyway i broke all those rules because i believe that what is important is to follow Moses stone rules from God.
- they get angry if you don't come to church. Its like they try to controll your life.

That is not how a good Christian should be. Its bad to force people.

Believing in God and believing in the bible or the church are different things. There are many regular church goers who study the bible yet are Christian in name only. And many Atheists who display more Christian traits than these church goers.
Church for many these days isn't about God worship but rather belonging to a supportive society. As one friend put it, I like going to church, I just wished they wouldn't keep mentioning God all the time.

I've certainly seen a LOT of people who proclaim to be Christian, but sure don't act like a Christian. Conversely, I've seen a lot of people who don't really adhere to any particular dogma who seem to have more Christian values than many Christians.

That’s definitely something new for me. Religious people tend to have lower critical thinking (there are multiple studies on this, here’s one: )
Because of this, I think it would be harder for them to notice somebody else faking their personality to become friends. It’s a shitty thing to do, for sure. It’s not nice and it’s taking advantage of people’s kindness. Which is bad, of course.





To answer your question, I’ve seen religious people fake being religious in fear of being shunned when leaving the church. I used to be in a cult, so this is honestly my only experience.

There's a long-standing comment about true Christian's... the ones that only go to church on Christmas and Easter. Comedian George Carlin used to do a routine on religion, where he explained that people go to church "to compare clothing."

People who go to church are just people. Going to church does not mean you will be or are a good person.
That being said, let them go there and try to learn how to love and be good people. Will they be perfect? Nope!


But I understand what you mean, act holy at church but crazy outside of it. I used to go to church and drive off the lot listening to music with curse words in it but it doesn’t mean I’m fake it just means I’m not perfect.

Actually, our congregation seems fairly "honest" in this regard.
Some people- who work day after day with dozens of other people- seem so afraid to come back to church even though they aren't confined to home any more.
