Religion, itself, is necissarily fake. No evidence of magic has ever been verified. Thus no promise of magic any religious leader says is based on anything real. But many people are desperate to not believe death is permanent, final, and inevitable, so finding someone who can say as much with great confidence is in high demand. It doesn't matter if they have proof: if they seem to believe it it gives their audience enough of a reason to also believe it.
Now, that's all fairly easy to think about because it applies to everyone who attends church. But the people who lead the church are in quite a different situation. They don't get to look to the authorities for reassurance because they are the authority. There are a few ways I've seen preachers handle this information: 1. Continue to cling to the belief that they were taught, even as their congregation tries to burden their preachers with all their doubts and despair. These preachers tend to be ineffective or don't last long, 2. Come to the conclusion that it doesn't actually matter whether or not any of it is true because these people are willing to pay for the illusion to be maintained. This is the vast majority of successful preachers, and probably what you mean by "fake" because they end up getting caught up in the money. 3. Conclude it may or may not be true, and probably isn't, but people are full of despair and they can help just by being positive. These are some of the more effective preachers I've met, in the long run, but they tend to not be very successful because they are unwilling to give fire and brimstone type charismatic speeches to attract people with entertainment value, like the first two categories are. Of course I've only met two such preachers and they both privately confessed to me that they were atheists, which I found surprising the second time but not the first.
So, the 2nd one is the most "viral." Like an invasive species. They flourish easier, which is why there are so many of them.
Are they fake though? At some point there was this religion called Judaism, heretics from it followed this guy called Jesus, preached this faith called Christianity, and it kind of became a big thing.
Later on a similar thing happened with another guy called Mohammed and his followers. Facing towards Mecca for prayers is referenced in the Koran, as elders from Judaism refused to meet with him and originally they were going to face towards Jerusalem, well, that's still kind of a big thing too. Historically, both of them would be fake preachers in their time.
There are a lot of incentives to start your own following, rather religious, on youtube, onlyfans, what have you. It gives power to exercise, in the case of a church tax exemption, income, and specifically for "fake preachers" they do have to push some of their money towards bettering their community.
I did a lot of lighting work for a "fake" church, it was more of a cult for pulling in criminals. Now they're reformed and tend to not go to jail or have harsh sentencing. Still and all, the area they occupied was completely blighted before they moved in, I'd feel uneasy there with a 4 man fireteam before. Now it's one of the safest areas to be with playgrounds and housing (owned by the church) up. Also space they rent for movies and plays. Move out of their area of influence and it's still a shitshow.
It isn't like it's new either, read Canterbury Tales, or more simply about the lives of popes, the schism, so on and so forth.

I believe the answer is that error is more common than correctness so the preacher who promotes error has more followers, like most of the Christians I asked said that salt in scripture is a symbol for preservation but that is not what it means, salt is a symbol for work and sacrifice. People think light is a symbol for love, when it is really a symbol for knowledge.

Sadly, believes are already primed to believe outrageous claims, and there are many predators willing to take advantage of that. Why do you think Trump ran as a Republican? Because their largest voting block are the evangelicals, and he knew they would believe every word he said. And they did. And they still do.

Ok, I won't kick you into the long grass, like a dog eaten ball. There have always been fake prophets and fake preachers, from before Christianity and after - it's nothing new.
Because they get money and fame. They love the spot light. These false preachers grasp right and wrong but will not fully accept Gods word in their hearts. a lot of fake Pastors want people to listen and follow them so they can hinder Gofs kingdom. Wiillingfully to lead people astray. The bible warms to be cateful of the wolves in sheep clothing. Be alert of the words they say. If it pleasing for man and actually encourage sinful lives to not follow. Sadly many are decieved.

There will also be hypocrites, double standards and people hiding behind a mask and preaching views they don't really believe and people seeking to take advantage of others either through faith or some cause.
And you'll find them no matter where you look in life. Even if you erased all religion from the world you'd still see the same stuff happening just in a different way with different stuff.
There's so many because it's easy, if you had to think of one religion that's the easiest to say you practice and believe in for some sort of benefit- wouldn't it be christianity?
No, Islam, to be an Imam you only need to be literate, have read the Koran and have understood a verse of it to preach. According to the book that is. Typically Christian preachers have to go through some sort of formal schooling. Because it is so easy though (you still need to be charismatic), it leads to different ideas of which way it should go.
They sold out to Soros Money to preach the gospel as conforming to your New World Order (Lucifarian) Agenda, Narrative and Wishes. They are now serving the dark side.
Simply because it makes money. People aren't difficult to convince, just gotta know what to say and how to say it. Once you learn that, it becomes quite easy to make someone a puppet, i mean there are many ways of doing it, but words are the best
