how?
As a new believer, I’m confused on the difference between God and Jesus. If Jesus is the son of God, why is he sometimes referred to as God?
how?
After you read the whole new testament, there are aspects you have to put into perspective to make "logical" sense so we can have organized religions. For example, Jesus said "I am God". That causes confusion to people. And so logical humans wrestle with these questions and come up with different answers, which results in 23,000 varieties of churches which have different interpretations of what it all means.
My opinion and translation may vary from yours... and that is ok. If you really want to know I'll write more. Start here.
God is love and that is what you are made of. The world is "fallen" and so our "bad" emotions quickly influence us and take over our behavior. Jesus is what God is like in the flesh.. he represents and demonstrated love. He embodied the qualities of God so we can see what God was like in person and he gave us a pure spirit, the holly spirit. Take what is good and be thankful for what he has done to purify and heal your heart.
The scholars and thinkers turn these into deeper concepts like "the trinity", triune god head. I'd avoid getting sucked into these things unless you are ready for that.
God wasn't after your logical determination, he's after a relationship with you, your heart, you'll know it when you feel it.
The first chapter of St. John's Gospel and the Nicene Creed will provide the answer to this. John's Gospel begins by declaring that Jesus Christ is the Word of God, the Word which "was God" from the beginning. The Nicene Creed states that Jesus Christ is "eternally begotten of the Father", and that He is "consubstantial with the Father".
John's Gospel also goes on to state that "the Word became flesh". Jesus, God the Son, became man without ceasing to be God. An analogy, imperfect though it might be, would be to observe that a man does not cease to be a man when he gets married. Without ceasing to be what he was, he becomes what he was not before. In fact, a series of Christian prayers called the Liturgy of the Hours, says almost that exact phrase.
So basically, God the Father (God) and God the Son (Jesus Christ) are two distinct Persons, yet They are of the same nature and the same substance.
The eighth chapter of John's Gospel also provides some good insights on this matter.
Because of the trinity, the concept that god the father, god the son and the holly spirit are 3 different aspects of the same thing essentially. Think of it this way, you have Mr Smith and he has a son, both the father and the son can be referred to as Mr. Smith.
Because God is three in one (God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit).
Matthew 28:19
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”

God the Father is supreme over Jesus in authority, Jesus is the Son and the messiah and savior of the world. That's the difference.
God is Spirit as Jesus taught, Jesus is the physical image of God thus making Him the Son of God and God Himself.
I understand, trying to understand God is extremely difficult because we are human with extreme limited understanding and He is divine in nature and all powerful, that's how it goes.
Jesus explained this to Thomas.
John 14:7-11
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?
He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
Be careful, there's a lot of bad theology on this site. If you do a search for a diagram of the Holy Trinity it kind of explains it but in our human minds we can't really understand it. He is one God in three persons. The Father is God. Jesus is God. The Holy Spirit is God. But Jesus is not The Father or Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not Jesus or The Father, and so on. When we get to Heaven we will understand.
Because.

Around 300 A. D. there was three priests who decided that the story was blasphemous and having the Holy Ghost, the son, and the father be three different entities didn’t make sense so they came up with this idea of what they called the Trinity where God was Jesus and the Holy Spirit
because you know the story changes to accommodate anything new that they come up with.
Jesus used to pray. Who did he pray to? Why did he need to pray if he was God? I am sure Jesus ate food and drank water. Then I am sure Jesus pooped and peed. So God pooped amd peed? What?
God is almighty. There is nothing God cannot do. And yet he could not save himself from being killed? What?
Jesus was of divine nature and sinless. He never peed or pooped since such waste contains toxins within the body.
Jesus was pure and sinless and his body wasn't contaminated by the sin nature as we are.
And Jesus wasn't killed but rather he laid down his life.
John 10:17-18
“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.
No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself.
I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
@Asker There you go. Jesus neither peed nor pooped. That should make it easy for you to decide.
if a cat has a baby
IS THE baby not 100% CAT?
so if GOD has SON
that child is 100% GOD
plus GOD Christ is above the dome
those who reject him shall be placed in outer darkness to be tortured in fire
God - the necessary, ultimate source of physical reality.
Jesus - just some false prophet who thought the world was soon ending.
Put it this way when someone sees you can I not see your father in you?
Because he came to earth as man to die on the cross to save us from our sins. The father the son and the Holy Ghost
Jesus is just a prophet.
All humans are considered gods children, so even Hitler is gods son.
It's amazing how everyone here has their own explanation. Apparently, you can interpret this anyway you wish... just like anything else in religion...
this might be a mistranslation? jesus is sometimes called lord, but not god i believe.
Neither. Jesus is a prophet of God and God is God.
How can you be a believer if you don't understand?
