The Bible can provide a moral compass to a nation. So can many other sacred writings of different faiths.
When it comes to specifics, I think it best to look at any Biblical Laws through the lens of more current thinking. Else we might have some interesting legal questions.
A few examples:
How much in the Currency of the Land is a fair price to sell my daughter? (Exodus 21:7).
My neighbor works on the Sabbath. (an ER nurse). According to Exodus 35:2 the penalty is being put to death. Am I obligated to kill a friendly neighbor, or will the courts assign an executioner?
Most of the men I know cut their hair and trim their beards. This is forbidden (Leviticus 19:27). In what manner shall they be put to death?
Leviticus 11: 6-8 informs me that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean. May I wear cloth or goatskin gloves and still play football, or will I be unclean, and if I'm unclean, how long is my purification and what are the rituals there-of?
The list goes on and on. Can't join a church congregation if I'm vision impaired, Can't eat lobster. Can't eat milk and meat together, so there goes the cheeseburger I like. Can't wear cotton and wool in the same garment, can't plant peas and corn in the same garden. The list can and does go on. (I have citations, if anyone is really interested)
The bottom line of me taking the idea from the sublime to the ridiculous is that many of the laws the people of the Bible were supposed to follow no longer make sense given advances in science, society, and civilization.
Moral compass: Yes. Pass Biblical laws: No. Not without a whole lot of thought and deliberation.
NONE. Christianity is not the only religion that exists in the United States. This basically means that the US have to be divided into different areas if we wanted to rule by religion, and I'm sure many people would not like that. Thus, the solution that will make everyone happy is a sweet compromise.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm religious and I believe more people should be religious, but I also know that there are people that are of other religions, and it wouldn't be fair to them if they were ruled through Christianity. The US is part of the new world where everyone (except for the indigenous people) is an immigrant, so it wouldn't make sense to go by the majority rule. However, if a European country where the majority of inhabitants are indigenous decided that they wanted to enact religious ruling, then that's their right to do so. Similarly, in the majority Muslim countries where most of the people are native to their homeland, then it's their right to have their own constitution that allows them to use religion for legislation. However, in Canada, Australia, the US and New Zealand, that shouldn't be the case, or it should be up to the natives.
Not being American, maybe I shouldn't comment, but the simple truth is that over there you have the separation of powers and the separation of church and state. You've got the First Amendment, which states:

Thomas Jefferson was at the time 3rd president of theses USA and more famously writer of the declaration of independence. Critically as many point out, the Federal politicians in black robes dishonestly took the line in question was taken entirely out of context turning it on its head to suit their own ends.
In the letter then President Jefferson was actually replying to a request by a Connecticut religious leader to intervene against his own state of Connecticut's religious laws, explaining why he as president of the union had no power to intervene.

If you do a study of the bible you will find even the bible discourages this. I will not respond to comments or questions on that sentence. There is a word in that passage called Nicolaitans. I was raised as a child to believe that was a race of people. According to several experts, I know that word is a compound of two Greek words nikos and laos. The word nikos is the Greek word that means to conquer or to subdue. The word laos is the Greek word for the people. Some bible experts believe this was a reaction to the early church at least 1500 years ago forming an oppressive government. Heck, at one point it was illegal to own a bible. This is why I am opposed to the bible being used to make law and what I just explained is one reason I believe the Bible itself is against it!
Separation of church and state should be the standard, but with limited exception. As many highlight, the law of the land through the Constitution is the 1st amendment. And that's great. People can believe (or not believe) what they wish. It is literally our right to do so.
But it is important to highlight that our nation was founded upon Judeo-Christian doctrine. So the value runs deep (or at least it should) in America.
Point I'm making is the individual, not groups, is the most important aspect of our society. So if an individual wants to have a prayer on the high school football field and isn't forcing anybody to partake, that shouldn't even be a cause for controversy. No different than a Muslim praying five times a day, and maybe they have to do so before they get on a plane at the airport. What do airports and schools have in common? Government institutions that cater to private individuals. By the way, Muslims who come the United States know we're founded on Judeo-Christian values. And they ain't harping. To close this up, prayer is still in Congress. Elected members of government, in government facilities, dictating laws for the nation. Nobody beats an eye. Why? Because they do it as individuals. So if the government isn't forcing the Bible on people (which it isn't), it will still play an influence simply based on individual belief. I hope we can all be tolerant of such beliefs, be it Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, etc. Isn't that what makes us the best?

American law should have a complete 100% separation of church and state as stated in the constitution. We should not swear on Bibles in court, should not have "God" printed on our currency, or have any religious reference to "God" in our Pledge of Allegiance.
That said, America is a democratic nation, whose population is predominately religious. Over 75% of the USA is Christian. Those people should be represented by the laws of the nation, and as such, their religious views should be represented, same as their economic or other views. That is not to say their views should be forced on the rest of the populace that does not subscribe to their religious dogma. That's why there should be no invasion of "God" into our laws, currency, national anthem/pledge of allegiance, etc.

If you put a bunch of school kids in a room and said come up with some laws, they could do pretty well without referring to any religious book.
However much people vote for religion to represent them. I don't get why Christianity is the one in question here, the fastest growing religion is Islam. If math is broken, and Christianity is somehow unaffected and doesn't lose any members to the growth of Islam and stays steady, it will be outpaced at latest at the end of the century.
Christianity is not united, there are many different branches on that tree, mormons, lutherans, catholics, so on and so forth, there is no way to rally everyone together. Islam is the opposite, they are united, and at a certain threshold, which will be less than christianity because of unity they will be able to vote and influence laws on regional, state, then national levels.
If it's the will of the people, what's the issue, as this is a republic of the people?
as many as can pass the test given to any other legislative reccomendation - that is:
1. what is the stated problem and why is it worth putting people in prison over it
2. What evidence do you have that that is a problem.
3. What evidence do you have that it is worth putting people in prison over it
4. What is your proposed solution to prevent prison down the road.
5. What evidence do you have that your solution will fix the problem (1).
If it passes all of that it should become a bill. Bill can then get voted after less logical debate ensues.
Of course it doesn't actually work that way - I just think that standard should be applied to everything equally and it would solve a lot of problems.
The Bible should be the guide to the constitution, and that the hard rule book for any other law or policy. Those who reeee the loudest, are those who know that they'd be dangling from a rope in past centuries for the crimes they routinely get away with now. Wow don't delude yourselves in believing in separation of church and state. The original intention of the exclusion clause in the first amendment was to keep the government out of religion. Not the other way around. Individual citizens are free to bring their religious convictions to a public arena, but will they succeed to convince rational people of the need for some secular law that conforms to their religious conviction? Who's to say? Here's an example: having multiple wives is illegal in all 50 states. Uh... what? Who the fuck are they to tell me how many wives I can have? Adultery is grounds for divorce. Separation of church and state doesn't mean no religion in laws, all our laws are based on judeo Christian values. Separation of church and state means there will be no declared Church so that the first amendment can protect the speech of other religions it's not to keep religion out of our laws. Because like I said the United States much like most of the western world has its laws based off of judeo-christian values. And if you write laws based on hedonistic or subjective goals that's how you get Nazi Germany or stalinist Russia or maos China who were all atheist dictatorships.
I’m a Christian. I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe in heaven and hell. That being said, I do not think that the Bible should have anything to do with the laws or government. If someone else believes in other religions then I would not want to have to follow the beliefs of that either. I think that the government should work to support everyone as a whole. Although that’s not always possible to please everyone so then that’s where the votes come in. If the majority feels one way then so be it. I don't know. I’m rambling lol.
I'm seeing many people in the comment section yammer on about the 1st amendment and the freedom of religion clause. What many are leaving out is the historical context as to the development of the Bill of Rights and Constitution. The driving force for such was to distinguish America from European governance. In Europe it was quite the norm for people to be imprisoned for practicing the wrong religion or even executed. For instance, if one were in a country where Lutheranism was the standard and you came along saying you were a Baptist, the state would imprison you. Allowing any religion to take in any state and federal government would and will tear apart the Constitution.
This question doesn't even make sense tbh. If many people share the morality of the Bible then they will advocate for those positions in voting and such. Nobody in mainstream america is advocating for the Bible to directly be involved in politics like "hey lets open the book and write some laws off of it" however you can't make someone who believes in the ideas that are contained in the Bible to say none of those ideas are allowed in politics. Because pretty much ALL political positions have been held by different religions and there for NO politics would be allowed at all.
