Because we can. You think some pissant deity who can't even follow His own rules is invincible? He says "don't lie", but tells Adam and Eve, who lived hundreds of years after eating the fruit of the tree of Knowledge, that they'll die when they eat it. It is obvious from the “New Testament” that Satan is a mighty supernatural being, not only independent of Yahweh & Son, but an antagonist of that firm, with powers on earth so great that he could kidnap one-third of it, carry it to a mountain top, and try to bribe it by offering dominion over the earth, which, it is assumed, Satan could have delivered at once.
