Why do parents use religion to try and control/manipulate their kids?

Why do parents use religion as a manipulation tactic to control their kids? Is this normal or does this only happen in the Christian household?

That’s a good point. I just see it happening so often. Like in my own household my mother tries to throw bubble verses at me that be if it her. But when I throw them back at her in response she gets flustered and saying I’m being disobedient. I stop going around my family because of it.

Nope because they use it as a bad thing. I’m religious. But I don’t use it to control anyone. If you like it than I love it. I’m not pushing my religion on anyone. I have Muslim friends and friends who practice Buddhism. I’m not trying to convert no one. I found out I have family that doesn’t believe in god. Shocking but I still love them and their decisions. It’s not my life to control and dictate.
