I feel like she makes a point. I feel like some people and emphasis on some behave "good" because their religion requires them to for fear of what comes in the next life. For instance thou shall not kill. Many religions in doing so you will be severely punished. the fact of the matter is religion itself is nothing more than keeping the mundane in check. A means to inflict control on one's behaviors and actions in life. If we lived in a world where no laws were set in place or no religion no consequence. A world where killing was like oh well, then everything will go to shits. Almost a kin to the purge movie.
Because being "good" is subjective. The Bible, Quran, Torah all give their ideas as to what is good. And what a good person should do in their lifetime. But when u take these away what's good is nothing more than excuses u make for your behavior.
I can say I'll kill this man for being a pedophile and touching children. But I'm still good because I eliminated a contagion in this world. Without fear of afterlife or jail.
If I go around killing every pervert in the city am I a good person?
I agree. But I'm a mass murder who just go around killing perverts because I was abused in my life.
I've killed 100s of them would u still be willing to be befriend me
Heard. I feel like I'll praise you for helping the kids but befriend is a stretch. Killing is just too much for me to sit at the dinner table with. Taking another humans life on purpose I don't know if that's brave or scary
I try to show love to everyone. Because of the love that has been shown to me. I can sometimes be ugly. If I'm in a bad mood. I drink sometimes. I gamble and I smoke. I don't judge people for what some consider wrong. I personally believe that murder is murder. A lie is a lie. A theft is a theft. . etc. I can't justify a wrong to make a right. Does evil deeds need to be punished? Yes and no. We can't have people who are dangerous out on our streets. That would be insane. On the other hand. forgiveness is what love is all about. Peace is the byproduct of forgiveness.
What comes out of us. Is what is within us.
On a side note. Don't you think if kids were reminded daily that killing is wrong. That there might have been a lot less school shootings? Because pre 1962. I don't think there were very many school shootings. What changed in June of 1962?
I don't even believe in an "afterlife". I do what is right because it is the right thing to do; there are no other reasons. If someone is only good because he or she wants to get into heaven, then that person isn't good at all, because their motives aren't pure.
Some, though it’s pointless. Good deeds are the byproduct of salvation, not the mechanism of it.
Salvation comes from a circumcised heart. That is done by God alone, good deeds are the evidence this has occurred.
“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Romans 3:19-20 KJV
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV
Salvation requires God’s grace, not human effort. After one becomes saved, they must obey their Lord and do good and abstain from evil.
For Christianity, it isn't about being "Good" in the classic sense.
It is about accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
But Christ explained. . . it is awful hard to forgive for your sins. . . when you have not forgiven those who have sinned against you.
Matthew 6:14-15
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Accepting Jesus as savior. Yes. And as Lord. Yes. What about repentance? What does one do for their Lord? Obey him right?
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 7:21 KJV
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: he is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”
Luke 6:46-49 KJV
“He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
1 John 2:4 KJV
“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”
James 2:17 KJV
Everybody talking about accepting Jesus, no one talking about obeying him.
@AndrésC64 Does Christ demand some bloody sacrifice before He forgives you or I?
I mean, we would want some consistency, right?
@Exterminatore 1. You have to accept Jesus before you can obey Him.
2. I cannot deny the Word. The Word repeatedly talks about obedience, as well as forgiveness and repentence. So you are right there.
3. But, you are wrong here. . . There is only one Judge. He sits on the right hand of the Father. Only He can judge us. We don't get to judge each other. And that is clearly stated in the word.
John 8:7
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Matthew 7
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2
For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
4
How can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
5
You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye
@rolland
No one is judging you. I’m just stating scripture out of deep concern for what seems to be a lack of the discussion of repentance. We give people the gospel but tend to leave that subject out.
In regards to judging:
“Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”
Matthew 7:16 KJV
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
Luke 6:45 KJV
“Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.”
1 Corinthians 6:2-4 KJV
Clearly judging is not meant as you are describing it. There can’t be contradictions in scripture.
@Exterminatore There can't be contradictuons in scripture? You sure?
@odd
I’m positive. If you think there are by all means show me one.
@Exterminatore Sir, don't make this personal. You are talking about the Christian faith. I think we can both agree we know nothing about the other's personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
You approached me talking about obedience and repentance, both concepts are in the Word. But also there is the concept of Judgement. In all of existence, in all of that is or what could ever be, there is only one Judge. And He sits on the right hand of the Father.
I am just making sure you understand that.
Now you keep talking about repentance, etc. You cannot judge that. You don't have the ability to measure that. That is something only Christ can ascertain.
Of course there are contradictions in scripture? What in the world are you saying? We resolve these contradictions by using context. As I was taught since I was 9, you resolve context by first looking at the chapter it is written in to see if it was out of context. Then you look at the Book, then you look at the entire Bible.
But I think in the case of Judgement, the Word is very clear. There is only one Judge.
@Exterminatore Examples of contradictions.
Corinthians 14:34-35. In 1 Corinthians 14:34-35, Paul wrote: “As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.
Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus came to the *disciples. He said, 'God has given to me all authority in *heaven and on earth. Therefore go and make *disciples in all the nations. *Baptise them with the authority of the Father [God] and of the Son [Jesus] and of the *Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey all the things that I have commanded you. I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'
@Roland
I’m not making this personal, nor am I evaluating your repentance or lack there of. I’m simply citing facts. I have not laid any charge of sin or wrong doing on you here. All I’m saying is people are told to say a sinners prayer and accept Jesus and that makes them saved. That is not true. They must also make him Lord. You did state that, but often we don’t hear this mentored. They must then seek to do his will. They must repent of their sins. If they are truly saved and have been converted they will then want to do this. They will be uncomfortable living in sin and cannot remain in it willfully. The desire and willingness to stop sinning and do a 180 (repentance) must be present. No one can be born again and remain the same, because God has changed the heart. Yet, people think they can say a prayer and live and unchanged life and that they’re going to heaven. I’m not saying Christians don’t sin and don’t struggle. I’m saying they can’t know their sinning and willfully and deliberately choose to make known sin a part of their lifestyle and not repent or continue to attempt to repent. I’m saying the general lifestyle pattern of those who have converted from death to life is obedience, and I’m saying when people are given the gospel often repentance is not mentioned.
There are no contradictions. As you stated, context. Context is taken into account with anything, scripture a book report in grade school, or newspaper article. In context and principal there are no contradictions in scripture.
Teaching in church and making disciples (evangelism) are two different things. Church is for the worship of God and edification of the saints. Evangelism is to seek the lost and give them the gospel. That’s what is meant by making disciples. To tell them what God says in regards to salvation and such. To be an ambassador and relay the message. They then go to Church for further instruction. It is fine, in fact it is duty for women to evangelize as it is for men.
@Roland
That’s a different situation from a woman having spiritual authority over a man. From then sticking their two cents in where it is not their place. It’s different from leading worship in church. It’s a different situation from them being the head of a church, which is what Paul is saying they ought not do.
Even Pricilla and Aquila (I believe) taught and corrected Epaprhaditis. That is also fine. Can women not be teachers of Sunday school which contains men? Certainly. That’s a different situation then when the entire church body is together for cooperate worship and cooperate instruction. In that capacity, women are not to lead or teach in church. Different situations.
@Exterminatore 1. But you did. You said "you were not judging me". Which is a weird thing to say in a conversation about faith. I think we both acknowledge one Judge and one only.
2. You can cite facts. I can acknowlege facts. But faith isn't based upon facts. I think we should get that straight first.
3. But it is true. It is just that once you are saved the Word demands that you behave differently. You are supposed to live in a way that is Christ-like. And again with the judging. I am going to tell you again, you can't judge who is or is not repentant. There is only one Judge.
4. Of course there are contradictions. I stated one.
5. What piece of scripture are you quoting that talks about the difference between Evangelism and leading a Congregation? You seem to be referencing something outside of the Bible.
@Exterminatore How is that a different situation? A woman who is a Christian can baptize anyone in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Are you referring to some Bible passage? Or is this some assessment you have reached on your own?
@Roland
You can’t judge who is or isn’t repentant? Well, didn’t the scripture I shared with you say that you shall know them by your fruits? What is Jesus saying to do there? He’s saying to evaluate the lives of teachers and that the false teachers will have not only a lack of good works but also a lack of repentance. They sin willfully. That would constitute a lack of repentance would it not? If someone in the church is doing someone wrong they are to be confronted by the individual right? If they deny wrong doing, what os that called? It’s called a lack of repentance. It’s called unrepentant sin. What happens next? The individual is to bring along 2 or 3 others. And what happens next? If they don’t repent they are to be brought before the church and the church judges the matter. What if they don’t listen to the church? They are to be put out of the church and delivered to Satan for the destruction of their flesh. Why? Because they are not repentant.
Have I charged you with some wrong doing? No I have not. Then I have not judged you. If you feel you are being judged, perhaps the Holy Spirit is using the scriptures I cited to convict you. I don't know. That’s between you and him. I have not judged you. I have not brought a charge before you. I will not discuss this part again with you.
That isn’t a contradiction.
www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/contradiction
There are no ideas expressed that oppose each other, just one that points out a different situation and different command for that situation. I will also not discuss this further.
“Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.”
1 Timothy 2:11-12 KJV
Meaning, women must learn from men in a church setting, not teach men.
@Roland
“And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.”
Acts 18:26 KJV
No contradiction here. They took Apallos aside and explains to him NOT tried to teach him and the other men in the church. Different situation. I though his name was Epaprahdides, I was incorrect, it’s Apollos.
And those relate to this:
“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.”
1 Corinthians 14:34-35 KJV
Which is related to 1st Timothy 2:11-12.
Speak, meaning not to teach and not to disrupt the orderliness of worship with question or debate.
However you cited this:
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Matthew 28:18-20 KJV
This is the making of disciples outside of a church setting and it is a command for ALL Christan’s to follow. To spread the gospel. That’s what it is saying to do. Teach meaning to give them the gospel, and for those who accept the message to further counsel them.
The command is a general command to all, both men and women. To go and tell others. That’s what that scripture is saying.
@RolandCuthbert Yes, he does demand a bloody sacrifice. Remember Jesus on a stick? Why couldn't he simply forgive? Do you demand a bloody sacrifice for forgiveness?
@AndrésC64 So Jesus demanded a bloody sacrifice?
You need to read the Bible.
John 3:16
Where in that verse does Jesus demand anything of us?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
@Exterminatore Of course you know them by their "fruits". Are you attempting to say that we all would make this determination in the same way? You see, I am concerned about what the Word says. I am not concerned about your interpretation. Here you are trying to enforce your interpretation of the Word on others and I am not sure where that command is anywhere in the Gospel. Again, you have to have a personal relationship with the Lord. So do I. I am not hear to evaluate what you think about your relationship with the Lord is. You do not go to Glory based upon your membership in a Church. You go to Heaven based upon your personal relationship with the Lord.
And I am not saying we don't have common sense. If a pastor is sexually abusing children, of course he has to be confronted and turned into the authorities.
But you are not talking about that. At least that is not the impression you are giving.
Because even a pastor who sexually abused children can be forgiven, repent, then do it again, be forgive and again repent, on and on into infinity. You can never know if he is truly repentent. You have no insight into his relationship with the Lord, if it is real or fake. In other words, you cannot judge that.
Again, you keep making this personal. I have an issue with what you say about the Word, I don't care what you think about me.
Because it is important that people understand what the belief in Jesus Christ is about. There is no judgement except from Christ.
And I just think it is important to understand the Bible is not always clear. That's why it is important to understand context. To understand that different interpretations exist. There are some people who learn Hebrew to understand the earliest translations of the Bible because of these contradictions.
@Exterminatore Back to the command of Christ to go into the world and to all nations baptizing them in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. In order to do that you have to minister to people. They have to know the Word. You have to teach them what the Word says. Never mind Matthew 18:19-20;
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
It is in this verse we understand the Church is not some institution, but simply a group of people who have repented and come to Christ. So seeing the Church in that way, how could not be a contradiction? How can this be interpreted the same way by everyone?
That doesn't make any sense to me. If the Bible is so clear, which denomination is the correct one? The Catholic faith? The Lutheran? Mormons? Quakers? Jehovah's Witnesses?
Oh and thanks for the correction. It was 2 Timothy. I was just in a rush.
@RolandCuthbert Again, yes, he did. Remember how God had himself tortured and killed so that he could forgive?
@RolandCultbert
For God so loved the world that he had himself tortured and killed for a couple days and then went back to being his eternal omnipotent omniscient self. Doesn't sound really like much of a sacrifice at all.
"A sacrifice is not a sacrifice by definition if you get back what you supposedly sacrificed. At best, Jesus can be said to have been temporarily inconvenienced for your sins."
-- Raven1
@AndrésC64 I don't know what you are talking about. You need to cite chapter and verse from the Bible.
@AndrésC64 It doesn't really matter what it sounds like to you. And the verse is quite clear.
"For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son".
I am not sure how that isn't a sacrifice on behalf of the Father or the Son. But perhaps you can explain.
@RolanlCuthbert awow, I'm shocked (not) that another Christian doesn't even know his own Bible. Ask, and ye shall receive:
Now, therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.
1 Kings 22:23
Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets.
2 Chronicles 18:22
@RolandCuthbert Read this again, slowly. Maybe it will help.
"A sacrifice is not a sacrifice by definition if you get back what you supposedly sacrificed. At best, Jesus can be said to have been temporarily inconvenienced for your sins."
-- Raven1
@AndrésC64 I don't think you really know what you want to say. What does this have to do with Jesus sacrificing Himself for the world?
@AndrésC64 You can mock me all you want. It isn't sane to pretend that was not a sacrifice. Jesus gave His life. It is just that His very nature is immortal.
@RolandCuthbert How can something that is immortal die? That's a contradiction in terms.
@AndrésC64 Do you think that you can understand the Nature of God.
I am just saying. . . maybe you can't.
@RolandCuthbert God lies (I have more if you want):
Now, therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.
1 Kings 22:23
Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets.
2 Chronicles 18:22
@AndrésC64 What does this have to do with Jesus Christ sacrificing Himself?
Connect the dots. You are all over the place.

So, based on that logic Adolf Hitler... in heaven.
Joseph Stalin and Chairman Mao... in heaven.
Ted Bundy... in heaven.
Child rapist and murderers... in heaven. Every evil, disgusting person who has taken pleasure and the torture, agony, suffering of others and killed them... is in heave.
"WE'RE ALL GOOD"
ETC... ETC.
Yeah that Pretty much covers it.
I don't consider myself a theist, nor an atheist. I'm unbiased.
But even the bible doesn't describe this dumbass in the clouds who does this. At least not from how I read it. Maybe my way of thinking is too different from that of most churchianity members, but I see the bible as a weird book that has many deep meanings.
A god is actually a Title.
All gods have there own names. But being a God is getting the Title of a God.
Best part about this is guy is just messing with you.
Of course he knows belief has nothing to do with what’s real and what’s not.
And your just falling for it.
Kinda how like a Tiny kid is going believe Whatever you tell it.
You're confused.
There are no such things as "atheists" - you just like to delude yourself that you are.
As for "Afterlife" it's called that as it's where everyone is going "after" their life, irrespective.
Hence why it's a bit laughable when people talk about such subjects when they have the complete wrong end of the stick. Like people who get diagnosed with cancer but claim "Oh, I can't die! Still too much to do!"
Sunny, you have no fucking choice in every matter, regardless of how you delude yourself that you do.
I agree with you. That whole argument about religion keeping people from doing horrible things seems so bizarre. Essentially what they are saying is that if they didn't have the promise of a reward for being a good person or punishment for being a bad person, that they would be a bad person. To those people I say, "Please, continue believing in your religion.", other people can just be a good person.
Is moral atheists are morally superior because we stare into inevitable oblivion but still choose good. I don't think religious people could cope.
Lol I don't really follow religion like that but I do however believe in God and my support is of Christianity through Baptist as a kid but I don't go to church at all but I know God is real cause someone had my back growing up and their Is no way that's magic how I got to where I'm at today.
How I come from 0 poverty and nothing but jail or slang drugs in a racist city and I escaped it all with just a thought and stuff I had on my back and got my whole family out. How is that even possible? You can't just move to California and make it. That's God bro I live in So Cal now check the prices all That's not possible.
The tools giving to me along my journey was God. He gave me the vision and the sight to make that move I was not chasing a fairy tale I saw it and I went after it, nothing was easy or smooth but I made the impossible, possible. Humanly I did the work, spiritually God did the work. I'm suppose to be here theirs not a doubt in my mind. That's why it's sounds CRAZY & super natural. Cause GOD did it. It's your choice to not believe but not every religious person feels if you don't do everything godly you will go to hell. We all sinn bro, their are sheltered people everywhere who will tell you the religious mumbo jumbo crap and it scares you away from it. But I can cope just fine in this world I know theirs good and evil & I accept that.
There is no good in us and we do not improve, enlighten or educate ourselves into Goodhearted or Better. History repeats itself and man/woman’s character is self-evident. For 3000 years it’s the same….
On our own merit, without the interceding Grace of Christ Jesus’ work at the Cross, we all would be in Hell. Jesus the Christ as Savior and Lord is the only way to be transformed from Totally Depraved to Holy and Good hearted…
It doesn't matter if your atheist, agnostic, Protestant, Catholic, Buddhist, Mormon, Muslim, etc etc. There will be an afterlife for us all. Its a matter of where, how and why and what.
Each believe their own is the right and only way. You owe it to yourself to seek your destiny in the afterlife. No one can do it for you.
I will never know until I die but still, I don't believe in the concept of hell or heaven or any religious afterlife.
I was working in a prison I went around asking if 300 men; is there babes in Heaven? They all said I sure hope so. Then i said the Bible say we will not marry or have sex. Ohh the disappointed on their faces till I get to a Muslim man. He said great I going to have 70 virgins. I threw up my hands and said I give up 😆
Being good is good. But not the only thing required to enter heaven.
I know for me I also don’t want to go to jail or prison so that’s a big motivator lol
If only good people get in we are all royally screwed because not one of us is that level of good.
@odd
Of course not. No one is good. You don’t believe in God. Do you care about God’s judgment? No. Likewise probably no one does good for eternal reward. The unsaved are not capable of doing good really. Most of the good they do is to gratify themselves, which is a form of pride. Even the hood they do is mostly evil.
Those who have been converted from death to life do good because they are being regenerated and enjoy good for the sake of good and the sake of obedience. The sinner on the contrary, it’s not even in their nature to do good. Most of them can’t sleep well if they haven’t sinned enough that day. Many sinners yield their bodies to give the full expression of sin that they may. Such a person is not very concerned with doing good but serving self.
@Exterminatore you are so fcking brainwashed.
Nope lol do you not think their is not another person in their flesh? Or do you think your dealing with a NPC?
They're bad people In general. I have issues with churches that doesn't make me dislike God. I remember when I was 11 my mom got evicted & she went to a church to make calls to get our stuff off the side walk and the wack pastor didn't care about our situation he was just more concerned we didn't eat his food he had set up for a meeting and when we're leaving lol my mom never went back to that church and a few years later it shut down. Not everyone is good & their is a such thing as Karma but that doesn't cancel God to me cause at the end of the day it was my mom's church friends who were white who helped us get a place quick and had people to help us move while other racist neighbors who weren't christian pulled up lawn chairs to laugh at us. You may think that's fucked up why would anyone share that. It's not at all to me and is completely normal thing to share. Theirs good & Bad in everyone.
No. There's no such thing as a good person before God.
Everyone needs to come to the feet of the lord Jesus Christ to be saved by His blood and grace.
I try to be a good person so that people will like me.
Na I'm a pretty good person I think even without having hope of any afterlife
I think so many people don't believe in an after life so no
I wanna be good because I just wanna be and feel it's the right thing to do
You can be the best, nicest citizen possible and it will not guarantee you eternity in God's Kingdom. You have to be Saved/Born Again
Possibly... if he truly repented, asked for forgiveness, and became Saved
According to God's standards, forgiveness and not holding a "grudge" is right.
Oh no, everyone doesn’t truly die. God’s people are the only ones allowed in HEAVEN.
We all will find out when we die where we all will go. Even those that super religious.
I’ll let know but I don’t when I be able to get back to you.
no. also criminals rely on etheism.
I’ll let you know.
I'm going to hell for sure
