That depends on what you mean by "forced".

If you mean initiating a child into the family's religious faith, raising them in accordance with it, and handing on the faith, traditions, and customs to them - which, for the record, is a fundamental right, both legally and naturally, of the parents, then I suppose the answer is "yes", though "force" is taking it too far.

When the child grows into adulthood, he or she is free to do what they want when they are a legal adult, but while they are subject to their parents' rules and authority, that discretion is with the parents.

Normal is average, and average is not smart. As Einstein said "average is not successful by definition" so f**k bothering about what's "normal", because your life is too unique to try making it a copy of someone else's.

But your parents have good intentions either way. Just be really unbiased and seek the real truth, recognize that nobody has the perfect religious or spiritual view. You can take the good thing from your parents and debate them on nonsense. Good parents will be glad you ask bigger questions and will cooperate.

It's common but it shouldn't happen. Religion should be a personal choice and this is coming from someone who plans to be a pastor

That's like being forced to dream.

    Religion cannot be forced.

Laws, political affiliations and regulations can be forced, and family values can be forced. But you cannot beat a person to believe something God doesn't want them to believe.

Yes. My mom made me go on a weekend retreat with our church's youth group when I told her I'm atheist. I'd gone to catholic grade and middle school, but would have been forced to go to catholic high school too if I didn't promise her I'd skip every day

You could call it “forced” or you could call it “sharing your family’s traditions and culture”.

They “force” you to put on clothes every day if that’s your perspective.

Most parents do it but I don't think that's healthy.

Forcing things always seem to backfire.
